Stereo & Electronics - what alternator?

I'm planning my stero upgrade for this winter.( My car sit's in the garage all winter so that's my mod time.) I'm going to build a steath install including a kicker sx700.4 and a sx1250.1 amp. I'm going to put in a deep cycle battery as well. my question is what alternator should I look at? both of these amp's have a decent draw and I know the stock one isn't going to cut it.I'm sorry I'm not going into a lot of detail but I'll post up pics after it's done I've got a few cool idea's I'm going to be tring.

i just installed my system, and it bumbs, also dimmes the headlights and my DC voltage needle on the dash dips too low when the car is idling and the system is on max. i am going to go with the heavy duty alternator from jegs, part number 908-7140B. i think it should fit my application well.

I was recommened this back when I was piecing my system together. However, a shop told me they could "rewire" my stock alt to puttin out 150amps. I fell for it and had the shop do the work. Pieced up my system together and noticed that my voltage at idle sucks; dropping to as low as 8volts. If I get the spare money one day, I'll look into buying an alternator from this place. Also you may want to do the "3 Big Wire Upgrade" to ensure proper voltage.

I just went with the Powermaster 150 amp alternator from Summit racing. Just another option to consider. The alternator has a 1 year warranty and is a direct bolt on/replacement.

yes, I'm very familiar with the kicker line. I'm just curious what kind of sub your going to run in a stealth encloser to pull that kind of power. I guess you could give it some extra power. I use to. :devil: Assuming the tune is good.

I'd be interested. I personaly thing the sx line is overpriced for what you get. Basically your paying for the processor. Many kicker dealers complain about them for tuning. Eitherway, good luck, I'm curious to see those pics now. :chug:

i went with the 900.4 and it seems to have too many adjustment settings like bandwidth, frequency centering, hp and LP filter on each channel (u dont have to pick LP, HP or full), Fully customizable digital meters for voltage, heat, electronic security, gain, VOLTAGE INPUT SIGNAL (big deal since it can handle up to a 16v signal input)

I'd like to know too. What are the options for higher amperage stock replacement alternators.

I want an Alternator that will make a lot of Amps at idle so I can bump my shit as close to full volume as possible while I'm parked, the stock one can't keep the batt charged parked or driving.

I have a PA Performance alt. They have liferime warrenties on theres. You can get either a 120amp or 200amp. I just went the 120amp and I have no complaints. Of coarse I am not doing anytype of sound competitions either.

I'd like to know too. What are the options for higher amperage stock replacement alternators.

The alternator is there on their site. If your not sure call the number. I posted a few comparisons with excessiveamperage altss. Only 90 days warranty on the alt. $25 more money and the 4alterstart alt put out more power at idle. I was comparing EA 300alt to 4aalterstart's 275alt.

There's a couple of people having problems with EA. But that maybe because they are using an aftermarket pulley.

Like I said, call 4alterstart.com Guy name Bill helped me, but anyone should be able to answer your questions. I had mine on the car for 6 months, I wouldn't recommended any other. I've had such good luck with the product and excellent customer service.

He's hooking me up though and it's past the warrenty date. He's building me a new 200 amp alternator that puts out 100 amps at 650 rpms. (I have an underdrive crank pulley so this will really help) I'm getting it for $270 but will be credited $60 after returning the old one.

I don't know if I call that hooking you up. Maybe repairing the alternator you just bought and chargeing you $60. I will leave it at that.

I think i read your story about that. Any alternator isn't designed for pulley changes. So it's possible that could of done it too. I'm not saying that EA is a bad company by any means. I am just stating the facts that he gave me compared to 4alterstart. I mean once you get in the 275+ alts, they are close to $500 bucks after shipping. To me, a warranty behind your product means allot.

And like you or most people pushing over 3500rms, idle ouput power means allot. At around 800rpms, this alt I'm using pushes 147amps, that's what the birth sheet says. at 650rpms, it pushs 138amps according to the birthsheet.

And at 2k rpms, (maximum rpm allowed at the shows), it's produces 95% of it's maximum power. It's internal votage is set at 14.8V, i"m getting constant 14.7v with everything playing. At night with headlights on and a/c on, i'm still pushing around 14.4v which is acceptable to me.

I've done allot of research before I bought, I looked at 6 large alternator companies. Narrowed it down to 3. The warranty sold me, it's a large investment; I wanted someone to back up their product. No other way than that but to offer a warranty. Most companies don't even offer 1 year, let alone 2.

EDIT: OH, I highly recommend anyone running a 200+ alternator should replace the standard belt with a v-belt. This will eliminate any belt slipping from the alternator. A slipping belt will cause stress on the front bearings and cause heat buildup which will cause the bearings to fail resulting in a fail premature life.
