Stereo & Electronics - Late '99 Monsoon HU Won't Control Changer :mad:

I've got a '98 Z28 with the CS HU and factory 12 disc changer. I've been hearing for years that late '99 Camaro CD Monsoon HU's can control the changer. I'm well aware that '97, '98, and early '99 Monsoon CD HU's can't control the changer, but I finally found what I thought was a late enough in '99 Monsoon CD HU that it would control the changer, but it doesn't. It's Monsoon CD HU part # 09380141 and it's manufacture date is May of '99.

The '00-'02 Monsoon CD HU's switched to black from the dark gray of the '97-'99 HU's color, so that's why I want to stay with a '99 HU IF I can find one that will control the changer.

Can anyone say with some certainty what the model # of a '99 Monsoon CD HU is that WILL control the factory changer? IF you have a '99 with CD HU and changer, would you please check your HU's part # and manufacture date and post it?

I'm really at a loss because I really thought a May of '99 manufacture date would be late enough...

Unfortunately, it appears that GM did not change the part number on the HU. The discernable difference, I am told, is the part number stamped on the actual CD player circuit card, which cannot be read without taking it apart.

There was a thread on here about a head unit that was bought off of ebay the was claimed to be from a 2000 Camaro, but wasn't. The justification for the claim was the number 2000 printed on the part label. The problem was that the number had nothing to do with the model year (was probably a batch code or some other unrelated number).

Since you already have a '99 CD player, you could get a 2000 or later unit and swap parts to get a CD player with a gray face that works with the changer. As long as you still have 2 working units afterwards, you could ebay the extra one.

Will the faceplates just swap from an '01 - '02 CD HU to a '99 HU without problems? Is it just a plug that unplugs, or would I have to to some soldering to swap faceplates?

That may be my only option. I've been seeing a lot of '00 Monsoon CD players on eBay lately, but when I ask for the model # or date of manufacture, a lot of them are even earlier than the May '99 model that I have which makes me think they really don't know what year F-Body the HU came out of which is VERY important in my search.
