I have a oversize radiator and fan set up on my nova big block, but I cant mount my tranny cooler with zip strips to the radiator. Just wondering if some one could help me spark some ideas. Id really appreciate it.Thanks.

I mounted mine to the radiator core support front edge, as I needed the room below for my ram air set-up.

Pictures are on my webshots page:

A couple in particular:

is the fan in the front where the motor is at or is it on the other side? Most people will say to put it where Villain put his or do like you said, zip strip it to the radiator but on the side closest to the grill. I'm just not sure if you don't have room on the motor side or grill side. Am I confusing anybody :jest:? Do you have any pics of the setup that way it may be easier to help you?

Hey Villain, are those cushion clamps holding your cooler in place?

Yep, we use the screw-down clamps with rubber insulators for mounting a few things like fuel lines and trans coolers :D

Is there any benefit to putting it on the core support as opposed to zip-tying it to the radiator?

I don't think airflow is less, but I had to mount mine that way becuase of the ram air scoops. The lines and such would get in the way, hence I moved it.

Oh by the way Villain, what exact cooler is that? I'm in the market for one for my camaro but don't know where to start looking. Should I buy the high performance one at o'reilly's for example? Or order one from online. Specs are 377 sb with 13.5:1 compression backed by a th-350 with a 3500-4000 stall. It'll see the street mostly on the weekends on one or two days during the week maybe. I'm not sure if those specs help but it's a starter. Let me know. Thanks.

That cooler has been on 2 cars, so I've forgetten what the part # is

With your set-up, I'd get a decent sized cooler, and I'll see if I can get you a part # on the new one I'll be swapping to shortly (same as my current one but with AN ends on it instead of hose barb ends.).

Sweet, I'd appreciate that. The one I've seen and considered is the perma-cool heavy duty trans cooler. It specifically states that it's "a must for high stall converters, especially when street driven." I got a part number off of jegs and it's 771-1305 or one of the three if you have a jegs catalog.

If you look at my pic you will see that my cooler is all most as big as my rad. Its been on the car for 16 yrs and no problems. If I can remember right it is a Hayden

Do you have any problems with the water temps going up since it seems the airflow is blocked off just a bit to the radiator?

The water does go up sitting in traffic but its not from the trans cooler its from my rad. I still have the factory 4 row with elect. fan which is not a good combo. When it goes back on the road it will have an Alu. one installed.
Remember that the factory A/C cars have the cond. mounted in the same place without bothering the water temps, and turbo cars have thier intercoolers there also
My Duramax GMC has the intercooler and A/C cond in front of the rad. with no problems

I mounted my tranny cooler outside the driver's side window attached to door. It works really well. Just use flexible lines when going from the trans/floor to the door so you can open the door.

Good example. Never thought of that. Thanks.
