Drag Racing Results - 13.9 with 146whp

so i got tired of being in my slow ass daily driven civic every day, so i decided to make a turbo kit for it. its made out of junkyard parts and i have less than 900$ in the whole car, including the car...... my friend tuned it for me and it made 146whp on a mustang dyno. well the first run i when i got to the track i ran a 13.9@98mph with a 2.033 60'.......the next run i ripped out a 1.828 60' but my tranny didnt like that too much and the tranny was already screwed so it wouldnt go into second so that run was ruined, im sure it would have been a 13.7 possibly a 13.6, i guess i'll see when i get a new tranny.... all of this racing and beating of the car and im still averaging 35-37 mpg in both city and highway driving....

He said it made 146whp on a mustang dyno. Flywheel horsepower wise he's kicking out well over 210hp. Plus the new Si Civic is really heavy (2900lbs).

I can believe the story, if the car is an older civic.

sorry but that can be argued. and once again even with 146 whp a crx would not run 13s end of story. and i doubt he is loosing over 50 hp from the fly to the wheels.

sorry i havent been able to respond to your questions in a mor timely manner, i'll try to answer some of them now.... the car is a 1990 civic dx, it has been gutted to the bare essentials, the only thing left in the car is two seats boost guage, tach, and factory cluster, everything else has been removed. the last time i weighed the car it was 1960 lbs and i have since removed the bumpers and only have the covers on. when i ran the 13.9 i was on 22x8x15" slicks. when i was on street tires the car only went 14.6 spinning all through first and most of second. i didnt start this thread to start arguments i was just sharing the abilities of a turboed car.....

well for those who think like this guy, all i was saying is that i took my shitty ass daily driver, put a turbo on it, had my friend tune it and i told you what happened.... no where did i mention that i have a bad ass honda thats is great to look at. i know it looks like ass, it rattles like crazy, its loud, but it gets me from point a to point b fairly quickly and gets great gas milage....and im takin pics tomorrow so i'll have them up sometime in the afternoon.

That's badass for a random experiment. I used to think rice was any car that was made to look fast and didnt do anything. That lil DD is pretty badass. Id have a 10 second del sol if I knew turbos. When your mind is on racing its generally on money whether you run 9s in a badass muscle car or in a shopping cart if it makes you money on the street it doesnt really matter.

if anything I wouldnt call that car a DD, to Me a DD must have a/c and all the other good stuff.

but this is a nice junk yard project, these are prety popular where I live and people are getting more into turbo now.

the member mammad78 is a good friend of mine, he made it inot to the 10's (10.2) in the 1/4 mile with a Del Sol powered with H22a/T3T4 dryer, and Home made everything, but now he is bulding a whoop ass Carbed LS2 to go in a C3 vette and shoothing for low 10's too.

oh i must say that not having a/c does suck because the temps have been in the 90's here lately but its funner to drive this way.

well my buddies ss camaro did 368rwhp on mustang dyno and on a dyno jet is made 417rwhp on dyno jet..... so imagine...its very possibly

At the local drag strip there was a 98 acura integra looked completely stock but ran a 13.9 at 102mph with 180fwhp

Imagine all those times where you just wanted to hit the gas and go all crazy spinning tires, and just tear up the street. Without worrying about putting a ding in the paint, or turning those brand new tires into rubber mush. Well in molester's case, he's got a beater that is only a hair slower then ours and can do all that with no worries. grats man! :)

so i just ordered the laxan. next is the removal of the side impact beams and hopefully this will take out another 100 or so pounds.

Keep us posted on the beater mobile. You should put some spray on it.. with the slicks and the looks... You could make some reall nice numbers, and some very very pissed off guys out on the street. :hail:

yeah i thought about that but my friends supercharged crx didnt last long with nitrous, he was on a 70 shot and i barely pulled on him in the SS so he through in some bigger jets to make it a 90 shot, he pulled through 3rd and it let go mid way through 4th. my friend has a 1.6 litre engine im thinkin of pickin up for $100, (D16 Z6) from what he tells me they are reliable to 200whp. so if i added another 50whp and took out another 100+ lbs, it might be close to 12's. cant say for sure until its done....

maybe i'm conservative, but arent you worried about blowing the car up? i mean, its a great DD. if it means nothing to you, then by all means. but it looks like its of use to you. the weight reduction is cool as hell though :)

well im not too worried about blowing it up cause i picked up a 91 civic hatch for 100 dollars about a week after i bought the red civic. im always buying cheap cars so i'll always have a backup incase somethin were to go wrong. right now i have my 02SS, 90civic turbo, and 91civic hatch. what do you wanna see and i'll work on gettin the pics up.

I gutted that bitch and even dropped the heater. That's a bitch here in Northern IL. I daily drove that thing to work for a year!

I was gonna ask you if that was indeed a D15, lol. That's not bad for what you got. Those motors are junk and, like you've already mentioned, for as cheap as you can get a DOHC 1.6 it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to keep that 1.5 in there unless you're just going to push it until it blows.

A buddy of mine had a late '80s hatch with a D15 in it he got for like $100 a while back. He bought it just to trash it. So one night I rigged up a 100 shot in a parking lot just so we could see how long it would last. It made it through about 10-12 passes before it blew the headgasket. It still ran though and this is what we ended up doing with it...

well i dont know how many open downpipe cars you have heard but the turbo makes it pretty throaty, and why i would post this in an ls1 site is because some people here might like to hear what i have done to my car.... i wasnt bragging, i wasnt saying it was faster than your car, im just letting everyone know about my little project beater DD. so sorry if my honda offends you.....

id put exhaust on it...it would be a neat little sleeper with something like a stock exhaust style setup on it....possibly put a 25-40 shot on it and see what it does.

im in the process of running 3" exhaust from the turbo back, well today i ported out the turbo wastgate flange and made the downpie out of two 90% elbows and the hp went up, it now has 172whp @7000rpms, from 146whp with the 2 1/2" downpipe i was previously runnin. i cant wait to get a new tranny and see if i can run a low 13 with this piece of sh!t..........

the first idea for this car was to be an autocross car but things kinda fell through when i didnt get this job. it doesnt handle too bad, theres not much bounce like you see in most cut spring cars. but yeah the fwd doesnt help either, i hate how when i try to power out of the corner and it starts spinnin. thats the worst part about the car but its pretty fun on the highway now

yeah its an open diff, on streeet tires it only spins the passenger tire but when it was on slicks it spun both. i dont know whats up with that but it worked so i just went with it......... i cant wait till i get the SS paid off so i can start building it and run some 10's
