2009 Camaro goes on sale the 1st quarter of 2009.
I just hope I can get one before they are all sold out of the V8 stick models.

It's about time. :)
But I won't buy an '09. I expect that the dealer pricing and availability will be nasty that first year.
I'll wait till '10, then order one with the exact options I want. Can't wait to add it to my collection.

It has IRS and it's going to be made out of the new Holden Commodore. Color me interested.
Now the only problem is which do you pick? New Camaro or new Challenger?
One thing is for sure, with all these great new muscle cars it's a good time to be alive.

Brilliant. By 2009, the retro trend will be (or atleast SHOULD be for God's sake) long gone, and GM will be sitting there scratching their heads wondering why it has half the audience it did back in '06.

I wouldn't exactly call the new Camaro "Retro", at least not full retro. The Mustang, yes. The Challenger, yes. But the Camaro is more of a blend of future meets past, rather than just a redesigned past style.
Either way, I really don't care. I like retro, and I also like the semi-retro style of the new Camaro.

That is a tough choice. I've always been a GM guy, so I'm 99% sure that I'd buy the new Camaro before any Challenger, but the Challenger looks appealing too.
I doubt anything will ever pull me away from GM though. ;)

It has retro queues but not as much as the Kris Horton design does.
It looks pretty modern too... IMO

God I hope you're kidding. So they should have made a car that looks nothing like a Camaro, like a GTO right? In that case BMW should make a Mini that looks nothing like a Mini, and VW a Beetle that doesn't look like a Beetle...
This is easily the best looking Camaro ever next to the originals, and it actually LOOKS like a Camaro. It has the timeless, signature, and unmistakable Camaro shape and even non-car people will instantly know what it is when they see it.
Outside of the 60s, these muscle cars have never looked or stood out better than they do now.

Nah, full retro to me means that when you first see it coming down the road, you can't tell for a split second if it's the original or the new model. That's what happened when I saw the new stangs for the first time..... at a glance I almost thought it was a '67. Same with the new Challenger, a quick glance at the pics and for a second it looks exactly like the original.
With the new Camaro, I can see obvious hints at the original, and it shares many of the body characteristics, but there is absolutely NO WAY that I would mistake it for a '69 even for a split second. ;)
Again, call it whatever you want, I think it looks great and I'd be damn proud to own one. :thumb:

Its a concept car people. Things will change. As for the rear being IRS, that is what the nmajority of the buying public wants. I would venture that less then 15% of F-bodies will ever see a dragstrip.

The Concept has 21" fronts and 22" rears. I'd say they have zero chance of going into production with those!

Granted the wheels will be smaller in the actualy production model. At minimum they should have 18's on that car.

At the show they said they made the concept as close as possible to what they would produce. So, if we do not see 22 in rear and 21 in front it will be close. Also, I am pretty sure we can expect to have the 14 inch rotors as well.
I made a crappy and large wmv from when I was there, it is 10 mb in size if interested.

So what you're telling me is that the 2nd Gen looked a lot like the 1st Gen, and the 3rd Gen looked a lot like the 2nd Gen, and the 4th Gen looked a lot like the 3rd Gen? :eyes:
Each new generation looked nothing like the last: they were a fresh new design: a more MODERN design completely unseen in the previous generation before it, yet they were still all a Camaro.
What you're saying is that the '93 Camaro was horrible because it looked nothing like the '92 Camaro before it (and the same thing for all previous gens), therefore the '93 "looked nothing like a Camaro" (in your words).
What about all gen Stangs and countless other cars out there whose newer generation looked nothing like the previous, but was still considered a Stang (and whatever else-named car)? Is the SN95 not a Mustang because it looked absolutely nothing like the Fox-bodies before them? :bang:

yall bitch to much about the rims when all it takes is a simple rim swap to fix it, get over it. i'm glade that GM gave it the green light...better having a company go down with pride and at least trying than just sit back and watch all the eco boxes take their sales. hopefully this will bring GM back out from the slumps and make them a noticed company again! i know what i'm going to have 09....already have my custom touches in my head ready to be one of the first 'maro's to be modded!

I think the new car looks like a car that the original 1st gens could have evolved into. I dont really consider it as much a retro car as the challenger (which looks pretty much exactly the same as the original) or the mustang.
I just ask they change the grille or offer an option for a billet replacement, and dont let it weigh anymore than 3500lbs. I would say 3300, but unfortunately i dont see that happening.
Oh, and give us an LS2 SS, an LS9 Z28, and an LS7 ZL1.

I hope:
1)they come out with enough of them so the mark-ups from the dealerships will not be astronomical-think GTO when it first came out. They were marked up to $35k and most dealerships were sitting on them, now you can get them for $26k.
2)make sure the aftermarket has plenty of time to come up with exhaust, induction components etc. like the Mustang was so we will not have to wait to 'personalize' our rides
3)enough models to appeal to the masses; economical v-6, z-28(ls2) and ss(ls9 ?) so folks will not have to wait to 2010 for the sportier models to come out.
4)have enough models available at the factory to were you can order a stripped down version without a particular 'power package'-windows,a/c,radio etc. That way when you place a particular order for one you don't have to wait 6mths or a year to get it(think of the wait on a Solstice-my wife's boss has waited almost a year for his particular car to finally show up)
I know it sounds like a lot to ask but heck if you have to wait 2-1/2 years surely the largest car company in the world can do it ?!

I used to think it looked pretty retro. Now, the more I look at it the more futuristic it looks.

I doubt it'll see the ls2, year for year that's off. delete the 3rd gens and it would be like puting an l98 in a 93-97 and an lt1 in a 98-02. I would hope that the higher end models get newly released engines. Overall I am very glad that the car has been given a go for production. And from the sound of it it looks like it'll have irs and I like it. I'll probably wait til '10 to avoid such high dealer markup and like mentioned I want to be able to get all the options I want.

Hence why I mentioned GM standing there, dumbfounded, as to why the new-for-'09 Camaro has half the audience it did "back" in '06.
Even Ford will be having a makeover for the new '08 Mustang to battle the new Camaro: it'll be rounder, sleeker, "much less retro" (words from article/Ford) than the current '05+ Stang.
See, even Ford is figuring that by then, the Retro Trend will be tired and drawn out, requiring designers to go back to creating modern, sleek, aerodynamic cars once again.
People will either get sick of waiting and turn to other available cars, or will get sick of the Retro Trend (since all trends die off: this one's just taking too long) and will be looking for sleeker cars (or whatever is trendy by then).

Even with the uber-news availability of today, a huge portion of the buying public won't even know the car exists until they see it in the showroom.

But they see it in the showroom and say OMG GIMME NOW! :D

Most of us on this board are too young to have been around or weren't even born when the 1st gens came out. In polls and surveys the 1st gen is usually rated as the favorite and most people would love to get their hands on a nice one, but with prices the way they are, it puts them out of reach for what would basically be a weekend car. The 09 Camaro goes a long way towards many of us being able to own their dream car and one that can be used a a daily driver. I'm not saying that it would be the same as owning a 1st gen but IMO its the next best thing!
