I'm looking for opinions on radar detectors on the market. What are some good quality ones? I looked at k-40 in dash installed. Lots of money though, and at the k-40 corded radar that plugs in. I just want to know what everyone else was using to get an idea.
Thanks!

I 100% agree with stang killer, I live by the V1, its the best damn thing out there..spend the extra dollars and get it, you won't be upset, it might actually annoy you because its so good, but when you really need to get warned, it warns you...

It didn't get better reviews....V1 was rated 97 in MT and C&D
Where did you see it get better reviews?
I've seen one before and it doesn't stand up to the V1

Does anyone have suggestions on a good radar jammer?? I have seen others out there but have no idea which ones are any good. I know that BMW has one you can get on the M3 straight from the factory. Because here in VA the cops are too lazy to sit and look for you so they make radar detectors illegal. They like to make easy money here. Anyhow any suggestions would be appreciated in this matter.

The only jammer I've heard of is the "phantom" I don't know if they still make it though...

Had an old passport for years then got the best a v1. A friend had a passport 8500 and was following me couldn't understand why I was braking because he didn't get the signal for about 8 esconds. The direction arrow are great you wonder how you could have driven for years not knowing where the signal was coming from and the number of signals.

Thanks for the replies. What about mounting the wires? I want to hide them as much as possible. Does anyone have a K-40 system installed (in-dash)? Are their dash mounted radars any good. Can someone post any pics?
Thanks!

i dont think you need to pay an extra 100 for the arrows. When my radar goes off on KA band i slow the hell down no matter where the cop is.

I mounted my detector on the top right side of my rear view mirror. The placement is good (not too high as to be in the tint bar, not too low) and I ran the wires under (or above, I guess) the headliner and down the a-pillar. Looks very nice and cannot be seen by cops from the outside. Last site I saw for jammers was just www.radarjammers.com (http://www.radarjammers.com)

Get a BEL, the only one with a rotating mount. This way you can hard wire it in the lower left of your windshield. (and have it look right) Much harder for others to see than in the middle of your windshield with a large wire hanging.

The jammers don't work and if you try and get Smokey Mountain to pay for your ticket like they lie and say they will, well you're in for an uphill loosing battle. Join the crowd. As for the V1 vs 8500, there are a lot of reviews on the web and i have never seen one that says the V1 is better than the 8500. See here, "as many people consider this radar detector the bench mark of radar detectors we do test it. The Valentine 1 is an excellent unit with excellent range and filtering. The big drawback in our opinion is the price as it costs $399.00. In our testing, the Escort 8500 outperformed the Valentine 1 in range and filtering. Upgradable by Valentine." "In our testing, and the testing of several major testing companies, the Escort 8500 is the leader of the pack! Combined with the superior range the Escort 8500 has on picking up radar signals, with its superior filtering capabilities, earns the Escort 8000 a five star rating. Flash upgradable by Escort."
