Has anyone seen those new sony explode subs? They are in the shape of an octagon. I was in best buy today and saw them I and at first glance I was drooling over them but then realized that maybe they will just hit as hard as circle subs. I was thinking it was a poor attempt to compare the explodes with the solobarics (sp?). But the question is if they are better and will hit harder? Anyone have any thoughts?

sony sucks IMO. Go with some jl subs, apline type R subs, or the solo baric L7's.
JL audio W7's hit hard as hell.

Is there a box for the TA that would still allow for the t-tops to go in the trunk?

The whole point of the square kicker subs was that a square of a comparable size has more surface area than a circle. Bazooka said that their triangular shaped subs were for "installation flexibility". It seems like an octagon would be pointless, just a fad to get attention. I agree with the others, sony is not the best but if you want a cheap sub, they'll do.

This box will fit in the trunk with t-tops.
So will the MTX thunderform that tucks in the same spot.

I think JL or someone else makes one, too.

Ya i figured it was sonys way of trying to compare their subs with the solo 7's. Sony = bastards I like that box though. Do they still hit hard?

If you want one sub to really hit, you're gonna have to get a really good one. You could get the MTX thunderfrom without the sub, then get a Thunder 8000 sub, and a GOOD amp that puts about 400W RMS to it, and it would hit pretty hard. I've never heard the one in the picture, but I'm betting it sounds pretty good.

Yea they also have a mono amp to drive that speaker thats in hte shape of an octogon. Only the cone of the speaker is an octogon, the mounting ring is still a circle so you can still use regular boxes. Ive heard a couple of sony systems and they hit pretty hard, not as hard as some others, but still enough to set off car alarms. They were the DVC 12's with the matching amps for each. 2400 watt system.

well, the thinking behined the octagonal design on the subs is that it produces more surface area on the subwoofer. this is true and the reasoning behind it is good. but what else can i say besides, its a damn sony xplod, they all suck
