By the way, are the Valentine 1s the best? What does it do that makes them so expensive? Where can I get one? Thanks

I think it's that they are a smaller operation
and don't build many of them (unlike the ones
you find at Wal-Mart). The higher-end units from
Passport et al also run up there.

Features include display of the total number of
detected sources (good for urban / suburban areas
with lots of door openers), direction (4 arrows)
and a pretty good range.

My GF has one and loves it. Me, I'm still driving
around with the $89 Uniden and it seems to work
well enough. But that's partly because the locals
only have older radar guns, only a couple of
instant-ons in the county and that's where the
range * anti-falsing become important.

One other point of koolness is that you can get
a remote display option ($) so you could mount
the detector anywhere, and put the display down
in the instrument pod below the dash, etc.

Do they have a site that I can go to so that I can check some of their stuff out? Where can I buy one from? What range of prices do they run at? Are they worth the money? Are there others out there that out do the Valentine 1s? I hear something about a scrambler, what is it and does the V1s come with it? What other kind of nifty features does it have? Thanks

The valentine1 is the BEST radar dector around. I have one and my GF has one, we love them.

You can get them from V1 (http://www.valentine1.com/). You can also get one at Pro Am (in houston).

They are about $430 shipped. And YES they are worth the money. The only other radar that come close to the V1 is the Passport 8500 but it is not as good. If the scrambler is the one that I am thinking it is, that is not a radar. It jams the cops radar gun so there gun does not get any reading. But that is against the law.

The V1 is the BEST radar.

If you are ever over on this side of town(cypress) give me a call and I will show you how well it works.

1)Do they have a site that I can go to so that I can check some of their stuff out?
Answer : They only sell V1 and accesroies. thier website is www.valentine1.com (http://www.valentine1.com)
2)Where can I buy one from?
Answer : You can buy from the website above or go to ebay and buy a used one. (Get version 1.7 or 1.8 anything lower is inferior)
3) What range of prices do they run at?
Answer : New ones are about 400+ship you can get preowned ones for about 300+shipp
4) Are they worth the money?
Answer : DEFENITELY !!!!
5) Are there others out there that out do the Valentine 1s?
Answer : Not as far as i know. I think the arrows are exclusive to V1's .
6) I hear something about a scrambler, what is it and does the V1s come with it?
Answer : Scamblers are made by some one else (I think rocky mountain) they are supposed to confuse the radar gun so they dont get an accurate reading. Never worked for me. i sold it to someone else.
7)What other kind of nifty features does it have?
Answer : Arrows telling you where the threat is. Bogey counter, optional remote display. 2 sensors, lifetime upgradibility and super customer service.

Are there any out there that come close to what V1s do or peform? Thats alot of money to invest, but what kind of things does it do that a cheap one dont do? I mean..dont they just pick up radar? I know that the V1s tell you which direction its coming from, but is that all that its does more than the other to slap $300 more on top of it? I know that it doesnt promise or guarantee you that you will never be pulled over again for speeding as long as you own one, because if it did, then I would definately buy one no matter if its $400 or not! I just want to know why they are so expensive and what does it do that the cheap ones dont? Sorry if I sound repetative.

Car and Driver did an article a while back about radar detectors. Basically the Valentine 1 came out on top by a good margin. It does what all the others do but better and with more features. Is it worth the price...Its up to you. But, it is the best on the market.

I found the article:
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/features/2002/february/200202_feature_detectors.xml?keywords=radar

Side note:
Radar detectors are illegal in some states.
Jammers/scramblers are illegal in all states.

V1 is by far the best. I picked up a cop about a mile away that wasn't directly ahead of me. I also like to combine the radar with a CB because truckers are always on the lookout for cops. If you dont want to spend the money, then go down to the passport 8500. It is also a great radar detector but doesnt have the extra features V1 has.

Go with the V1

V1 can be hidden I assume, where do you put the detector for it then?

If I'm not mistaken they also make the electronics that the police officers use? Therefore who would be the best on the market.

I went to their site and it seems that they only have one radar dector. Am I looking at it and in the right places? Thanks

It can't actually be hidden, but the remote display module puts the visual warning down out of the view of people behind you. You still have to put the V1 front and center in your dash to get accurate readings from behind. Not that I have one, I have the 8500 and am fairly pleased with it, but my friends V1 is damn nice. And the 8500 can be set to tell you if you have more than one source on you. It does work- at some stores it will show two different x or K band signals. I have yet to hit a speed trap to check it out. And the Passport picks up farm tractors quite well- anyone who lives in a farm state like Iowa should use a radar detector just because of that. I hate popping a hill and seeing some 8 wheel JD coming at me. By the way, the tractors use radar (x+k) to check ground speed vs wheel speed to allow for some wheel slip the aireate (sp?) the ground.
