Stereo & Electronics - Changing stereo system > will steering wheel controls work?

Well, I want to dump this whole bogus "Monsoon" system in my 98 TA. I can't deal with all these mis-matched components (Aftermarket speakers vs stock Monsoon amp or a head unit that won't work well with anything but Monsoon, etc)

Anyway, it is all going in the dumpster! [All] of it.

Qustion: As you may know, the TAs have steering wheel controls for the stereo (nice touch). With a complete new system, can these controls be made to work, or is it just too much trouble to mess with?

P.S. > I am NOT a automotive audio expert by any stretch of the imagination!

Thanks,
Ron

Yes, they can be made to work. The only catch is you have to get the part from somewhere (circuit city/Best buy) and it is like $80.

As long as your aftermarket HU has an infared remote control, you can purchase the PAC SWI-X which will allow you to retain the SWC and program them for any remote function of the HU. You can purchase one from just about anyone ie:Crutchfield.

Yeah, the PAC is the way to go. I got mine through crutchfield, and I would recommend doing the same since you can call them anytime if you need help finding the correct wires to splice into. It is pretty simple to install and a breeze to program. I love the thing.
