Alright, I am in the market for a set of 10's again. They are going in two fiberglass boxes on each side of the car in the wheel well area. My mounting depth is limited to about 8 inches. I am not looking at 100% SQ in my setup. I want to pound the hell out of the car. Any suggestions or options on a sub would be nice. Here are the main choices I am looking at, any others that compare, let me know.

1. JL 10w6
2. Kicker L7
3. Alpine Type R
4. Rockford's Power Stage 1

I dunno if you could make a box easily that has enough cubic air for the W6 to function efficiently. I just bought a stealth box with a 10w3v3 and I asked about putting in a W6... stereo rep said that'd be no good w/o mods to the box.

There is nothing easy about making a box that fits into the wheel wells. But I have done it before and did it again. One cubic foot is possible and how well would a 10w6 sound maxed out in that amout of air space.

Go with memphis audio. I think they are the best. I have two 10's and 2500 watt amp and they sound great.

I dont have enough room for the 10w7. I wish though.

Crazystud86, What memphis 10's are you refering to that hold that much power

There is plenty of room for a w7!!! it just takes a custom box and no more spare tire (if you still want t-top access)

That's what I had in my old TA. It sounded GREAT!!

How would one 10w7 compare to 2 L7's.

Well its not an option but I say Rockford Fosgate punch stage 3...I got one in my TA and it hits hard.

You can't get 1 cuft out of the left side opening. I built a fiberglash enclosure and it took up all available space and even went up to where the rear speakers are mounted and it was only .71 cuft. .71 is fine for most 10" subs anyway. I thought about adding one the other side also. You should be able to get over 1 cuft out of the other side. But I would think that you should may both enclosures about the same size. I would have to look up all those subs to see what volume they would prefer. Out of the list the L7 will be the loudest, but I don't know if they have enough room.

Check out caraudio.com, they will have definate opinions and include some subs you've probably never heard of.

I partial to the JL Audio 10W3v2-D4 10" myself. I juts picked up 2 for my new Stealth boxes. I had JL's in my last Z28 and liked them a lot. Gotta buy them grey market or you'll pay full retail and they are EXPENSIVE at full retail.

Elemental Designs 11Ov.2 linky (http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=34)

Havent heard a bit of bad reviews or of any sort about this sub. Just put one in a stealthbox in my Z and am very pleased. They are designed to work their best in small enclosures, so buy one and save your T-top storage, just my .02 cents

The elemental designs's seem like a good speaker to go with for my applacation. Does anyone know what they would be like compared to the Kicker L7's. Loud is my goal.

JL 10W6v2, most of the bass of the W7, and 10000000000000000x more musical. Also shallower mounting depths. I have 2 in my vette, and had 2 in my lightning, they work great in small enclosures.

Either the JL 10W6v2 or the Elemental Designs 11Ov.2 IMO....They are both made for small enclosures and both hit hard and clean. The only thing that sold me to the Elemental Designs is the price, a lot cheaper then JL and the excursion on that mofo is ridiculous Link to excursion (http://edesignaudio.com/edv2/11ov2_video.php) . But its up to your preference, so its your call.

Others:

Either the M1 or M3 Memphis for 300-500w (good SQ/SP response)

OR the 35 series DD's (Digital Design) hit real hard, and can take even more juice!

Hard to provide direction not knowing power supply! And then you have the rest of the F-body world who runs JL :jest: :jest:

and nothing wrong with them either, but you may have clearance issues w/DD and Memphis. Heavy deep magnets!

kicker, jlaudio, fosgate, DD, there's plenty of good subs to choose. All of these top of the line 10s will pound. 2 subs are general more volume than one for output.

Great input from everyone. Still havent made up my mind though.
Going to purchase another amp after I get the subs. So I can be sure to max out whatever I go with. The elemental designs sound like a good deal.

i have a alpine type r 10 in a jl audio stealth box and i love it being pushed by a 350 class d alpine amp. lots of bass but not a over kill. sound quality is also great.

very impressed with dayton as a company...just built a set of HT towers with their classic 8's and they sound amazing...I think I might replace my Ascendant assassin 10 with one of theirs just to see what they can do in a car.

Nobody likes the Image Dynamics IDQ?
I think they sound better than the JL 10w6.

I'm going with the Elemental Designs 10" - my second choice would be the Alpine R's...

Damn good sub the ID IDQ, but don't forget my favorite, the ID MAX!

I've ran my 2 ID MAX 10s in stealth boxes before with great results!:D
If you really want your subs to POUND!Ported is the way to go!

I like the IDQ, too. I think it's outdated, but it's still good.

I got 2 12" type Rs in my caddy and love the way they sound. Picked them up for $114 each new, for sound quality and being able to push them to the limit cant go wrong. For the price of JL Audio... hell no not me. Put 2 10" type X's in there for $200 new pushing 1k watts rms, blow away any w6, and the w6 is still $100 more!

dragonrage

Or you could put a Fi Q in there and blow away Type X and W6 both. Actually, even the SSD would. (assuming proper boxes in all cases)
