Ballsy design IMO but a bit overdone for my tastes. However this thing is 10x more exciting than the bland, boring ass Cobalt SS Supercharged. If GM toned it down a bit and maybe downsized that huge grille they'd have a winner of a hot hatch on their hands. This thing is powered by a 190hp Common Rail Diesel that puts the power down to the front wheels. The European Market Civic Type-R is still much better looking but the WTCC Ultra is a start. At least this thing shows that GM design can be ballsy every now and then and not totally staid. I say tone it down and sell it as the next Cobalt stateside.

Well this thing is designed in the vein of WTCC cars, not WRC cars. I think it'd be much harder for GM to take a shot at WRC than WTCC though. At least GM has some experience in road racing whereas if they tried to tackle WRC it'd probably be as piss poor as their half assed attempt to have Cadillac do battle with Audi in the LMP class at Le Mans a few years back. They'd get their ass beat by the french if they ever decided to race in WRC. Citroen and Peugeot are not to be fucked with when it comes to Rally Racing.

I really like the front end design (does need to be toned down a tad). The taillights look cool, but I just am not a fan of hatchbacks. Would make a cool rally car.

AWD!!! That is what that thing needs and a turbo. It would be sweet. Also lower it a bit.

I dont know if you were laughing at me cause I said it looks like a renault, but if you look at a renault clio I can see a resemblence(sp). About the comment asking if GM possibly owned renault I was thing about opel, and that car deffinately(sp) looks like the corsa. So excuse me for posting my opinon and asking a question. I love this site but I dislike how alot of the people on here have to hate on other people rather then just answering their question. I can understand when its a redundant question but I have never seen that question asked here before. Its not like I was asking whats the best lid to install on my car. Sorry for the rant but I fell there was no reason to point and laugh like you did. I am not trying to start anything, just making a point.

I was laughing because you suggested that GM owned Renault and well... if that were the case there's no way Renault would be the quirky avant garde company it is today. Look at how watered down (albeit way more mainstream) Saab has become since being stuffed into GMs portfolio. I wasn't making fun of you at all man so you need to just chill out and get a grip. :)

I would drive that. Especially if they put the new turbo 4 that comes in the Solstice GXP in it.

Not me. Too much plastic inside, and the body kit looks ridiculous as well.

I think it looks like a pretty cool little racecar. Don't know about the specs, but an AWD and the new LNF motor in the new Sky roadster that thing would be majorly bad ass.

Now that is the kind of exciting car that Chevrolet needs to start building. I'm sure if they built that car with an option of FWD or AWD, turbo or non-turbo engines, they would sell a million of them. Of course the interior SERIOUSLY needs work to make it a suitable street car, but that goes without saying. I would buy one. We need a NEW Chevrolet... screw the evolution of the old Chevy into what it is today, I want new and exciting products.
I want to see the new Impala done by THAT team of designers. It'll make the Altima look boring again.

Saw Ed Welburn interviewed on Autoline Detroit about this vehicle and he said look for the to push it to market (especially in Europe) and maybe take it Rallying as well with an AWD gear box. Unfortunately, it looks like a focus on steriods. But I'll take a turbo echotech 4 banger in this sucker, if they can make it pump out about 300 horse and with a 6spd AWD. I'm not a huge fan of hatches though. Or I'll take the diesel.

where were you when there were talks of Carlos Ghosn (owner of Nissan and Renault) buying GM?????
Gm owns Vauxhall/Opel and they did own FUJI Heavy (Subaru) at one point, down know if they still got them. The also owned FIAT(56% owner of Ferrari), but i think that deal ended recently. still hangin onto directv unfortunately...

About 33% ownership, and they have since sold that off.

That would be cool if a domestic company could build something similar to the Nippon rally cars, that would give them a run for their money (if not kick their azzes outright!!).

Well it would have been a GM-Renault-Nissan merger. I doubt GM brass would put themselves in a position to be bought out by another automaker unless they were insanely desperate.
As for Fuji Heavy, GM's stake in the company has since been sold off as DD already mentioned. Around 8% of their 20% stake was sold to Toyota and the rest was dumped on the open market. In March of this year GM also reduced it's stake in Suzuki from around 20% to 3% in exchange for 2 billion in cash. Additionally, while they have stated that they will continue working together with them, GM has also completely sold it's shares of Isuzu as well.
The FIAT deal is the one that really fucked them over though. They ended up paying out 2 billion to FIAT in order to get rid of them.

it was more like kerkorian talking alot of shit to shake up GM and the media i would think, i doubted it would actually happen.

yeah i wasnt sure if they still had them...

yep still claiming those loser step-children though for a while atleast.

damn skippy, how is FIAT doing in the Euro market compared to GM owned Vauxhall/Opel, anybody know?
edit: back on topic, AWD turbo would be nice, it sucks GM is always last to do things, i think the cobalt was a few years late, so is this concept...

I've been saying GM needs to go Rallying for a while. It's a GREAT research bed as those cars start life as production pieces and then are morfed and force fed the roughest terrains known to man, and the cars eat it up and spit it out.

i think what a lot of people are missing is thats a concept race car. so it will have things like oversized wheels, big wings, a really extreme interior ect. the over all design is badass and if honda keeps selling civic si's here i could see them bringing it over IF it was put into production. i really like it a lot actually.

i like it, and i immediately thought of Renault when i saw it.
def. needs AWD and some forced induction! i dont know if it would sell millions, but it would sell IMO.
use the 5cyl from the trucks and turbo it
or just the Cobalt SS motor with AWD behind it, probably most economical (boring)

Thanks, no on the 5 cyl. They have a horible sound. I'll take the 4.2 straight six though.

Hell, the NORMAL I6 would be a bitchen powerplant in the WTCC ultra.
On a side note I wish they would put said 4.2L into the Camaro as an in-between engine...Maybe as the RS? A little above the base model V6, but not quite the 5.3L Z28(?) I still say they should put the Vortec I5 from the Colorado into the Camaro as a base engine, especially now that it is upgraded to a decent level of power. Emissions should be easier to make work with an I5 than a V6 I would think, plus less parts to manufacture=cheaper to produce and maintain. 1 exhaust manifold, catalytic convertor, etc. is cheaper than two!
