Are you talking about the speaker grills on the side panels, not located in the hatch area but nearest to the rear seats? If so, Maybe thats were the factory "Subs" were placed. Not sure if they came standard on all Fbodies, but maybe yours didnt come with it.

Your car sounds like it didnt come with the monsoon system. Thats all, on the monsoon the car had 10 speakers but I cant say for sure I think the camaro lts called it the bose system... And in those cars there was a sub on the left side of the truck area...

The bose in my 95 Z28 sounded fantastic and it hit pretty damn good for a stock system.

yah you can add a good set of 6.5"s back there and it would be good. yours doesnt have speakers there because its not a bose system. some came with them some didnt. so go pick a good set of 6.5"s and youll be happy

There was a 3-speaker and a 5-speaker Bose system in the early 4th generations. Both had a sub in the left rear but the 3-speaker systems didn't have sail panel speakers.

It is physically easy to add speakers to the sail panels but they're not so easy to connect. The Bose systems depended on independant amps attached to each speaker and didn't have speaker-level output from the head unit. So you will need an adapter and an amp to power the additional speakers.
