Everybody is saying our direct replacement that will sound the best is 2 ohms. With that, everybody is saying this speaker (ALPINE SPS-17C2) is one of the best replacements for the factory speakers (2 ohms)....every website in the world including crutchfield has these as 4 ohms...maybe im reading it wrong..i am extremely new at the radio field...i read all the sticky's and FAQ's...still lost :eek2:

By the way: I bought my car 2 months ago, 2001 SS camaro...im telling everybody how horrible the monsoon sound system is...not loud enough...not enough bass..the works..funny part is, i never thought to look but both rear passenger speakers are gone and my passenger side is blown...the only speakers i have in the whole car are the driver side...and the 2 speakers in the trunk (i believe they are called the sail speakers, not sure tho)...so after i realized it didnt sound that bad for 3 out of 6 speakers...i decided to just stay with the monsoon and if im already replacing 3 speakers might as well go all out and replace front/rear dool...i figured id leave the 2 trunk speakers stock....

if what i wrote makes absolutely no sense i do apologize seeing as though im not very good with radio's and speakers and subs...if anybody has any suggestions im all ears, well eyes lol thx alot guys

Those Alpines are 4 ohm speakers. If they are in your price range they are a good choice. You can go both cheaper and more expensive but they are well matched to an otherwise stock monsoon setup.

Stop worrying about the ohm rating and move forward.

I would suggest running the wires currently going to your hatch speakers up to drive the tweeters of the sail panel alpines (when you istall them). The hatch panels speakers will drag the Alpines down. You don't need them after upgrading.

They are the MB Quart Discus DKF116

* Size: 6 1/2
* Sensitivity: 87 dB
* Frequency Response: 40-32,000 Hz
* Recommended RMS Power: 50-120W
* Peak Power Handling: n/a
* Impedance: 4 ohms

not really a wiz with speakers or anything like i said before...did anybody try these or from their own knowledge have an idea about their performance?...i had MB Quarts in my other car and love them...just don't want to change the monsoon head unit...thx guys i really appreciate it.

You can use pretty much any aftermarket speaker you want, but you have to be able to hook up the tweeter and woofer seperately.

The Alpines allow this easily because the tweeter wires are ran through the center pole. On some co-axials these tweeter wires are ran through the woofer cone. I am not sure what type those MB quarts are.

On a side note, the discus line is not the same grade of driver MB Quart used to be known for. I'm not saying they are junk but if your last set of quarts was quite a long time ago and two or three times as expensive... that is why.

A set with a higher sensitivity rating will work better than those MB Quarts.
