well i dont know what forum to go to and ask this question but i figure you cant go wrong with LS1tech. Anyways im looking for a "beater" 4x4 truck and happen to find a 1988 S-10 4x4 truck. The guy told me he had a 2.8 ltr Jasper engine that was fairly new. He wants $2200 for the truck. How dependable are these Jasper engines? Ive heard of them, just not familiar how they stand up. Thanks guys!!

i had one in my 95 t/a. it held up to the abuse that i put it through for 10k miles but when i took it apart all the bearings was shot. the center copper part was showing in all of them, rod and main. the motor had low oil pressure from day one. the only reason i got it was because it came with a 218/224 cam already in it and it had a 1 year warranty. but honestly man i wouldnt advise getting anything from jasper unless you get it cheap. but that was the only thing wrong with mine was the oil pressure.

a buddy of mine works on 18 wheelers and he says anything that comes from jasper and goes in their trucks breaks with in a month of use.

I think they are fine for a daily driver/beater, but I would never buy one for a performance application. So that 2.8 in the S10 should be fine.

For a performance car, always go with genuine GM ;)

I had Jasper build me a Marine Shortblock back in 97. It was a very nice piece that took everything I could throw at it. I only pulled it because I am going with an all forged 4 bolt setup.

Have installed several jasper engines, have had a few problems ( couple coolant leaks & one that lost oil pressure)
