I am finally starting to get serious again about putting a system together. I have a question as to whether to get one sub or two.
I listen to 100% rock, metal, harder alternative...Just about anything that can be found on XM 48 Squizz or Music Choice Rock (For those of you who have XM or Digital Cable). I was going to get the driver side sub thump/ED 10 inch sub combo.
For the type of music that I listen to, will I be better served with one or two subs?

It all depends on how much money you want to spend. I have one 12 in my car an it sounds better than any 2 12's Ive ever heard. For what you want to listen to, you'll only need one. Just make sure you do it right. Brand name stuff, good wiring, RCA's and crossover, and itll sound clean.

Money is somewhat of an issue, I want to do the system right, though. But I am not looking for anything competition quality mind you. I was going to get the driver side sub thump/ED 10 inch sub combo. Will that be enough to get by on one then?

(1) 10 should do the trick (200-300w amp).....mind you it won't shake the windows, but should supply you w/the "kick" you require.
Don't skimp though, as I've heard some pretty crappy 10's in my day, and mismatched systems.

If by ED, you mean Elemental Designs, then I wouldn't imagine money would be a problem.

I originally had one 10" Alpine and decided to purchase the passenger side stealthbox. Two 10's sound much better and I listen to bands like Disturbed, Godsmack, Mudvayne etc. With two 10's, it can really pound and a good HU will let you dial in the sound depending what mood you are in.

HU I will be picking up is the Alpine 9857
If I do decide on a second sub, I dont think subthump makes the passenger side box anymore. I wonder if they will still make it per special request?

Go with a single 10 to start. I suggest a Boston Acoustic G5. Very clean and thumps pretty hard for a single 10. It moves your hair. It handles 450w rms and I've got 400rms going to it. My amp is a 4 channel and I'm powering my whole system with it.
Just running a pair of front speakers and bridging for the sub.

i would put 2 good tens in there. like memphis m3's or something of the sort. that would be good as long as you have the right amp for them.

Never hurts to ask:) The 9857 will allow control over the sub output.

The problem with no planning on one sub or two up front is the configuration. A lot of 10's are dual voice coil and to get the most out of the amp, you need a 2 ohm load. That is, for most amps. If you decide on one 10" sub and it is DVC, you need a dual 4 ohm. If you decide on two 10's that are DVC, you need the dual 2 ohm version.

one 10" in a stealthbox is usually more than enough.
