I've been looking for replacements formy sailpanel speakers. Dealer wants 65 each side, but on ebay I see a couple places that sell for 90/pair shipped. The ones on ebay state that there is a newer type monsoon speaker that does not blow out as easily as the originals. Is that statement true or not? If true, I will probably just get those updated speakers. If not, I guess I will try to go through the hassle of replacements. Someone said the JL 6W0's were good, but they are double the price and hard to get (meaning only shady internet shops have them in stock)... I know of the Rockford RFP4480, but those I guess were long discontinued.

Alpine also has a Type-X 6.5 midbass speaker that'd work too.

i went to circuit city and tried listening to the polk db650's which i saw a few people mention. boy, they didn't sound like anything at all. maybe it's just because it was in a store and not inside a car.
so does anyone know anything about the "updated design" monsoon speaker? i was happy with the way it sounded... just afraid if it's going to blow up right away again.

I have been replacing the speakers in my car for over three years...I have always bought another pair of which ever one I had currently blown in the parts 4 sale section..usually you can pick up a pair of speakers for $25-$35..it is not the speakers that are the problem it is the distorted signal that the head unit puts out that kills the speaker..the speakers are so so but the head unit is a ..:turd: ..I have not heard about any new and inproved monsoon speakers..there are many after market speakers that are of much better quality than the OEM speakers or the new and improved version .. :)

yeah, a lot of people have been telling me that there's better aftermarket. thing is, the two that i listened two that people mentioned before (polk db650, another i forget at the moment) didn't sound like an improvement over what i had before. i'm thinking of buying the most expensive sony or whatever 6.5" at walmart just so that in case i don't like it, well, at least i can return it and get something that i know is absolutely better than it rofl :shiner:

It's not so much an improvement in bass levels, but durability. Going to aftermarket w/o changing anything else, that is.
