and the shifter knob was unscrewed, off, and in my driver's side seat. I can't imagine how this would happen without anybody getting into my car. Worse off yet, I don't know how it would have slipped my mind that my car was unlocked, because I always lock it, even for a 5 minute trip in the grocery store. Nothing else seemed to be missing and the car ran fine, etc but this just kinda scares me! I have automatic locks but no unlock remote, and I've heard I can put in an alarm and remote with one system....I'm started to think about it, especially since I just ordered ~$400 in stereo equip and the likes.

Can anybody recommend me a keyless entry + alarm? Or have any other suggestions? My car sits outside as it has nowhere else to be... :(

Are you sure you weren't drunk the night before...lots of things like that happen to me, but I just assume that I did it while I was trashed. :)

Seriously, that is wierd. Why would someone go into your car and take the shifter off and leave it there? Wierd.

Yup, I think you've got some f'd up friends :) (or at least funny ones.)
Or maybe someone noticed that you left it open and needed to let you know.\

By chance was your tank filled? maybe some change missing in the ashtray?

Or since they couldn't shift it with the key not in, they were trying to put it in Nuetral and failed? I think you might have gotten lucky!

i never thought i would need a car alarm (always though locking my doors was good enough). the TA came with one and just last week i heard the alarm go off while i was in my room, looked outside and saw some punk kid run off through the parking lot and down the street! DEF saved my butt. im 100% pro-alarm now. all i can say is he's lucky i was 2 1/2 stories up and he had a head start down the street. long story short - get the alarm. its a good investment.

i have a viper 771XV remote start/keyless entry/alarm and i love it i just installed it about a month ago and it works great (i have been installing these for 2 years) its got all kinds of options. one of my favorite is on the pager it has a light that blinks and tones when your alarm is going off because most of the time u cant hear it when its going off in your inside somewhere. 2 days last week at lunch someone door-dinged my car and i went out there and caught them.....unfortunatly they were assholes who just looked at me funny and drove off (already int he car at that point) but the point is if you car is getting broken into or someone hits it you know about it immediatly no matter where your at as long as your within range which is pretty far. i started my car from about 150 yards away from inside our install bay the other night. but anyways im happy with it and it has a dual stage shock sensor to where if you com in slight contact with the car it will chirp to let you know it is equipped with an alarm....then if it gets hit again harder it will go off, this way your alarm doesnt go off if a bird craps on it and ur neighbors hate you lol. i trust my 4000 dollar stereo in it. its not 100% guarenteed not to get broken into but i have alot better chances of not getting stuff stolen

That sounds like typical prank back in high scholl we stole my friends shit knob out of his fiero at a band competition some hours drive from his house, we gave it back to him two days later.

Go for a Viper with a 2 way pager. Best of the best solves your issue.

Well from what I've read in this thread and what I can think of, I see a few possibilities.

1) Someone thought it would be funny as hell to do
2) Someone was checking out your car, looked through the window, figured what the hell, tried door handle, proceeded to open and look in, think why the **** is this dumb*** leaving his f-body unlocked, thinks :maybe I'll unscrew his shifter knob to teach this fool to lock his car:, and proceeds to do so
3) A certain special someone who thinks you aren't performing in bed and thought you would get the metaphor
4)...I could've swore I had another one, maybe I'll edit it later

I think I might do that to one of my friends. It's pretty funny just to find your shifter knob sitting on the seat, lol.

Strange that someone would take the time to do something this silly.

Any specific features you would like in the alarm except basic protection?

Get an alarm!................... I have Viper on my 02 and the wife has Automate on her truck, it will track, lock, unlock, shut the motor down and start it + works like Lowjack all for a fee, if you have the money. I think you need a Viper or something!

I'm looking at the vipers now, the 2 way pager is nice...I don't really need or want the remote start (always leave my car in gear, that could get ugly). I'm thinking just a basic viper alarm with the 2 way pager (remote).

I'm really thinkin this was a prank becuase nothing else was missing but I still just have to wonder how they got in?
