Stereo & Electronics - Any one used the Pioneer 1.5 DIN HUs?

Looking at the DEH-P47DH and the DEH-P77DH units, but I can't find anyone around that carries them in stock or an individual who has one to see them in person.
Oddly, Crutchfield says they don't fit an '02 Camaro, which seems odd to me since it looks to be designed to plug in directly for GM and DCX and they even list a review from an FBody guy.....
Thoughts?

Okay, I'll bite...how does a single DIN with a mounting kit look better than something that is designed to fit the opening?

I had one, Liked it, it really lacked asthetics. But overall was an okay HU. I sold it for an Alpine 1din

I like them, but after looking, they don't have any MP3 ones :(

I played around with the Pioneer 1.5 DIN hu prior to buying my Alpine 1.5 DIN HU. The Pioneer looked cheap and do not like the looks compared to the Alpine. The Alpine sounded better with BBE and worked like a champ.

What model Alpine are you using; I can't seem to find a 1.5 DIN, only double.

Alpine no longer makes a 1.5DIN unit.

I have seen a few on eBay and I sold mine a few months ago. I had the CDA-D857 and it was great.

I love the 1.5 den idea because most cars are this size however IMO there are no great head units out there in this size

I had a DEH-P77DH in my 2002 Camaro SS. They fit perfectly.
It is a great stereo. Once you learn how to fine tune it sounds great with stock speakers and a sub. For the price you can't go wrong on sounds and looks.

I have been running the 77DH in my V6 camaro since November 1998. It has not missed a beat! I finally had to change the battery in the remote a couple of weeks ago...original battery in it still! I have the HU hooked up to Infinity Kappa series speakers, with a MTX amp running off of the subwoofer output. The MTX pushes a single 12" Infinity Kappa sub(old green color). I abuse the stereo regularly and have about 170k miles on the car since the entire system has been put in. The pioneer head unit has worked flawlessly, while I have had to have the MTX amp rebuilt 2 times...need a new amp right now actually.
The headunit does not have all the bells and whistles of newer units, but for the price it is a very nice unit in my opinion. I have not used the auxillary input on it, but I imagine you could hook up a satellite radio or mp3 player through it. Once you have all the adjustable crossover settings fine tuned on the headunit, it is a very nice piece of equipment.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'm having problems with my front speakers and was debating whether or not to just replace the head unit as well. I was also wondering about the Pioneer units. I would rathar keep a clean "stock" look with my 01' and have something that is a direct fit than use an installation kit with a single DIN. Just my personal preference.
The Pioneer DEH-P47DH or DEH-P77DH seems like a perfect fit and like mentioned while it may not have all the bells and whistles like some of the newer units out there seems like it'll do the job.

I had a 1.5DIN Pioneer in my 92 years ago and it worked wonderfully the entire time I owned it. I'm leaning towards one of these units primarily based on my past experience with them. Is there any reason why I shouldn't go with either one of these ? I realize 1.5DIN units are not common but are there any others besides Pioneer available ?
Thanks

I'm with WhiteBird00 on this one. Show us a day shot. They all look great in the dark. :judge:

it was great in my 3rd gen, but it doesnt do MP3. It has great filters and crossovers, and 4 volt pre-outs 3 sets on the higher model. The display is too dark in the daytime.
