Stereo & Electronics - need help wiring up power windows

ok i just converted my manual windows to power on my 02 z28 and all thats left for me to do is hook up the wiring how do i do this?thanks guys

do u really think it was a smart thing to convert it over, and not know how to wire it? :)

My advice is search on google......or leave em be.

Assuming you are using factory window switches you can use this schematic to wire them:

If you didn't get a power window control module you can still wire it but you won't have the express down feature on the driver's window. To eliminate the module from the connections just connect a wire from the driver's side switch terminal D directly to terminal B on the driver's motor and a wire from switch terminal E directly to terminal A on the motor.

good stuff man thanks i got it all in with a module and it is all factory the only things i got left is i got to ground that black wire somewhere. and that brown wire that goes into the fuse box.now the thing i need to know is that brown wire is suppose to go into the box with a 30amp breaker.where can i find one of those and also in the back of the fuse box theres already a brown wire in there what do i do with that wire? thanks again

not trying to threadjack but what would be the correct procedure for running new wires from the fuse box?

my friend(he is an Electrical Engineer) is going to be helping me fix my window trouble over the holidays, and this is one thing he was wondering about (rather than running a wire from the battery)

Your fuse panel should have the socket for the windows circuit breaker even if the car didn't come with power windows. You can either buy a 30-amp circuit breaker from the dealer or just put an ordinary 30-amp ATO fuse in that socket. The socket gets power from the BCM for the RAP circuit. It should work because the radio also gets power from the BCM on the same circuit. Use a test light or multimeter to check it for power whenever you have power to the radio.

There should be at least a couple of brown wires at the fuse panel. One would be the output to the power windows but another would be the power supply for the wipers. Use your tester to check for power - if it's the right wire then it won't have power until you put your fuse or circuit breaker in. The output wire you need may not be there because the car didn't come with power windows so you may have to add it yourself.

yea theres two brown wires a skinny one and a fat one. the fat one comes out of the back of the fuse box opposite side where the breaker would be. do i just splice into that wire or just pull it out and put in the brown wire from my wiring? thanks

There are three single terminals in the fuse panel (as opposed to the two-connector terminals used for fuses). They are intended for use with aftermarket accessories. They are labeled BATT (constant battery power), IGN (ignition switched power), and ACCY (ignition switched power that is also available during RAP operation). Unfortunately, they are only 15-amp circuits so I wouldn't recommend connecting your windows there.

The window motor rewire is a stop-gap fix anyway. It will improve window motor performance for a while but the factory motors are not very good so they will eventually fail anyway. I put in ACI replacement motors that I got from Advance Auto. They are much faster (more like my wife's SUV) and they come with a lifetime warranty for about $60 each.

I would double-check that it actually goes to the windows terminal in the fuse block first. Either test it for power with and without the fuse or just turn the fuse panel around and visually check it to make sure the wire goes to the correct terminal.

Once you're sure it's the correct wire you can either tap into it or replace it with your own wire. Unless you have a convertible it doesn't do anything except power the windows.

ok cool yea i unbolted the box then made sure it went into the right area. i also ran the wire to where it goes to and it went into some connecter to the left side of the steering column.and its a hard top

thanks for the info. My windows motors have been replaced many times under factory and extended warranty, so I am going to stick with them temporary until they start to wear.

ok so i spliced the black ground to another ground coming off the lower dash and i spliced the brown to the other brown wire in the back off the spot for the power window breaker and it still aint working i bought a 30a breaker as well any thoughts

First check that you actually have power on that brown wire. Also, check that your ground is good (try using a direct chassis ground). It's easier to troubleshoot power power and ground problems than the rest of the wiring.

If it turns out that the power and ground are okay I can give you a series of diagnostic tests to run at the switches to find the problem.
