I had my complete sound system installed about 3 months ago and i got everything for wholesale price and what not so i wasnt gonna complain about what box was going in just as long as i had everything i needed. BUT last week i went to get out spare tire and was like hmm wonder how light this box is?? picked up both sides and the whole damn car rises up a whole inch maybe even 2! i was like holy crap this thing weighs a ton. none the less couldnt wasnt easy on the back when lifting it...
so what im trying to get at, do i have any substitues for this big ass box? or am i stuck with it for now... weighing down my back end... :bang:
thanks,
-Rams

It's going to be heavy. You could 'glass a box up yourself, but it'll still be heavy.

what is a "stealth box"

a stealth box is a box that fits in the rear driver side cubby under the trim panel like so:

I make these out of fiberglass with a wooden baffle. They only weigh 12lbs. It will fit most 10's, and some small box 12"s. I normally sell them for $225 + shipping, but I'm clearling out inventory (currently 2) for $185 + shipping.
Granted, these are not going to be as loud as a big hatch box, but for weight and space savings, there's no other route to go.
PM me if you are interested in one.

Without giving us specs on the box and the sub you're using, that's very, very hard to say.
It'd be sorta like someone saying "I want to swap a V8 for my current V8, will it be better?" without any backup info.

you get around .66cu ft for a subthump stealth box, I believe the boxes that fit where our Ttops go gives about 1.0cu ft to 2cu ft. If you want to go subthump stealth box to save weight, etc. just match up the right sub that can operate with that much space (volume). There are a handful available that sound great in that small enclosure. I recommend and run a Elemental Designs 10in. My friends laugh in disbelief when I say its just a 10....

the subthump boxes are made of wood, and give you about .6 or so cu ft and can only fit a 10. My box is fiberglass, has about .85 cu ft, and can work with some 12's.

You can remake the box out of fiberglass to save a bunch on weight.

Get the subthump stealthbox and passenger side stealthbox, loose the spare tire and jack that is pretty much worthless and save the cargo area. Getting the Elemental Designs sub and box from subthump will sound as good as any 12 inch sub using the same enclosure and will save you $$$ for peformance mods. If they are Kicker Comp VRs. they will work well with the subthump enclosures too.

0.6cuft - driver displacement means a hell of a small box, even for a sealed 10" setup.
The eD will sound good, but you probably won't get a hell of a lot of low-end extension or volume from it, in that box. As long as you don't expect to be cracking your windshield, you should be satisfied. However, I'd personally go with the larger box Mike has, simply becasue it's got more volume (always, ALWAYS easier to reduce volume than find it in a box) and it's fiberglass, which is lighter. Nothing against subthump, but the box size would be the kicker for me.

I'll add that a healthy amp can help make up for the smaller sub.
