Im planning on keeping my monsoon setup but out of the 6 factoryspeakers in my car 2 are working so i plan on fixing this and also adding a mtx thunderform 10" in the drivers side cubby hole. My question is people that have kept the stock headunit and monsoon setup, what speakers have you used and are happy with? I read somewhere that you can get more out of your sail panel speakers by taking the hatch wires and bringing them to the sail speakers ....is this really a good benefit or should i just leave them where they are and continueto install new speakers all around. Now on the speakers I was curious about the infinity 62.7i's or the sps-17c2's or..anybody else got a brand they like? So people let me know what you done and are happy with and remember im adding a sub in the back corner regardless for some small bump.... so chime in and help me decide ....thanks for any future info!

I've replaced all the speakers in my SS and I'm pretty happy with the sound.

I have the Alpine SPS-170A's (old model number for SPS-17C2's) in the doors. To be honest, I only chose these because they were recommended in the Monsoon FAQ. At the time I was sick of hearing the blown speaker on the passenger side and in a hurry to get it replaced. I'm glad they turned out to be a great drop-in replacement. THe Infinity Kappa 62.7i's were not available when the FAQ was written. I believe they became all the rage because they had a 2 ohm nominal impedance just like the stock speakers (see rant below). By most reports, the Kappa's are a good match for the Monsoon system.

I decided to go ahead and replace my sail panel speakers before they decided to die on me. I looked at quite a number of speakers before deciding on the Pioneer Premier TS-M7PRS 7" midbasses. At an average internet price of $185, they might be a little more than many people want to spend. If I ever decide to dump the rest of the Monsoon system and go completely aftermarket, I'm probably going to put a pairof these Pioneers in the doors also, along with the matching tweeters and crossovers all around.

In the rear hatch, I dropped in a pair of Alpine SPS-100A's since it was only an additional $25 on the order when I bought my door speakers. I like that I now have tweeters on the rear channel like the T/A Monsoon setup has.

The only reason to take the rear hatch speaker wires and pull them forward to the sail panels is if you wanted to drop in full range coaxial or component speakers in that location. I don't know what advantage that gets you, other than 2 less speakers to buy, or if you just want to buy 4 of the same speakers to put in the doors and sails. I think it's more of a personal preference issue, rather than a sound quality issue.

{Begin Rant} I think people put too much importance on the impedance spec. Not realizing that electrical power is not the same as sound power level. The only thing going from 4ohm speakers to 2ohm speakers guarantees you is that your amplifier will work harder providing more current to the 2 ohm speakers. There is nothing magical about lowering the impedance of aspeaker coil that assures you of better or louder sound output. {End Rant}
