It idles slightly worse than some other popular cams, and doesn't make as much power as them. On the positive side, it is a cheap solution.

Personally, I'd rather spend a couple hundred more and get a setup with a better cam and better springs.

I have a Hotcam. I Like it ALOT for what i paid. $314 for the KIT! In a group purchase about 8 months ago! Idle sounds MEAN. I guess with an auto you might have issue's. My M6 works fine ildes chopy but stable!! Not the best Peaky HP cam but makes a good power for the price. And i only have a 6400 rev limit which i like to hopefully help it last longer. #'s are in sig. This is not bad concidering gears and all. Full weight car. No tricks, on nitto's w/19lbs air as always. In fact i had to Drive 2 hrs to dyno so it had to be in street mode. And i forgot my shortbelt. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I guess there not bad for driving. I drove to Memphis and back(2hrs 1 way). And ill be headding to Texas June 30th(6hrs 1 way) Witchitaw falls (SP?) for a Month. So i trust it you can put it that way.
I'm From 10min North of LR. I head Close to texas sometimes if i go to the track in Prescott ar.
Honestly i drive an hour and a half each way to the track, I would trust the car on a road trip with the cam anyday.

When I installed my hotcam I did it mainly because I wasn't planning on doing much more to the car beyond mild bolt-ons (oil pump was dying on me and I figured doing the cam swap at the same time was a good idea <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> ). I thought it would be a good match for stock heads and the various computer sims seemed to back it up. What's more there was a problem with the Comp 941 springs needed for higher lifts at the time and the hotcam, with its mild lift, could use the more reliable production LS6 springs. I also new that the older hotcam had worked well in the LT1/4 engines.

Since then, however, my plans have changed a bit and I am now looking at doing heads, etc., in the near future. When I do that I will also switch cams in order to take advantage of the new heads.

Nothing wrong with the hotcam, it definitely sounds great <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> and there is certainly a power improvement over stock. Some may find it a little bit troublesome for a daily driver depending on what you're willing to put up with, but you can certainly live with it. It's about what you would expect from a performance cam.

So, IMO, if you're planning on staying mostly stock other than the cam and some bolt-ons, the hotcam is probably on par with most other cams. If you want to have more future potential, though, I would suggest using one of the proven MTI, TR, or similar grinds. I also wouldn't let price be the deciding factor for cam selection. In the end you may have saved yourself $200, but if you end up doing it over again later it's really no money saved.

We pass by there to go to prescott. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> We get off about 3-4 exits west of there. As you go there next time look for Prescott you will see it. I know there is exits for it. You will be about an Hour from my house. Can someone post numbers and if this is a decent cam or not. I was thinking of getting it cause I can get a really good price on it and my dealer said they would keep me under full warranty since it is a GM product. Don't post about warranty please just the cam

mods and times in sig (with tuning issues and leaking egr!). i was happy as i gained 50 RWHP with the headers and cam. that was very good. but i have not been able to get that once nice time slip yet. i wanted to be in the 113-114 mph area. hopefully with decent weather i will be there.

it is lopey. just open up the TB hole and my MAF housing ends (ported) seemed to help.

Hotcam is a great all around cam. Reliablity
is a big issue with me and needing something
that I could feel safe with.

I have 13,000 miles on the cam and springs
and am very happy..
idle problems go away with throttle blade to 15/64" and adding the trooper mod
.022" spacer on top of idle set screw

My numbers are in my signature, and I believe they say everything that needs to be said about the GMPP hot cam and its performance capabilities. I'm sure that a few more horsepower could be had by swapping to a more aggressive cam, but since the lift is considerably lower, and in my opinion, less stressful on the valvetrain overall, I decided to use the hot cam. It's a very driveable cam, streetability is not reduced at all.

I just installed an LS6 intake and uploaded a Superchips program last night. My next dyno chart should be near 400-RWHP, which was my goal on stock heads. The cam is a solid choice, easier on the engine, and can make gobs of horsepower. I've had it for 9 months now, and couldn't be more pleased.

How does 397 RWHP and 403 RWTQ sound? Those were my numbers with the Hot Cam. I had an LS6 intake, MMS TB, and SLP longtubes. Stock heads. IT's not "popular", so many people don't like it, but I still think you'd be hard pressed to ever find a better cam. Htere are other good cams out there, but the Hot Cam is my all around favorite. 12.15 @ 120 is also pretty respectable.
