I know this has probably been beaten to death, but I searched and couldn't really find what I was looking for. Anyway with my monsoon system dying one speaker at a time, I would like to install new speakers and a head unit. I am not an audiophille, or a bass addict so keep that in mind. To make matters worse, I don't know anything about car stereo installation, ohms, amps, watts or any of that stuff. I want to know if there is an aftermarket head unit that is easy to install and that will look factory. I also would like to have a nice easy to use faceplate. I don't want a million buttons or have to toggle between one setting and another. I want basic stuff. I'm an old dude so I don't care about MP3 players or bluetooth. Hell I wouldn't know what that stuff was if it fell out of the sky and hit me in the head. I'm still trying to figure out my cell phone :) I just would like some suggestions for an affordable, simple to install system. I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks.

I think the newer Clarion receivers are pretty easy to use, from their looks anyway (I haven't used one). Check out the DB265MP (or even the 165). They're a pretty good brand and that model can be had on the cheap.

For speakers, you can go to the store and get some Alpines, 6.5/6.5S/6.75 will be your best fitment. You're best off getting some components (try DLS B6A on Ebay), but you'll be better off running your own speaker wire to the front speakers from your deck so you can use the crossovers that come with them, instead of what's built into the Monsoon system. Each speaker system has its own crossover designed for that particular system, so the crossover in the Monsoon system is not generally suitable for other systems.

Alternatively, depending on how loud you want to be able to listen, you can do speakers the cheap way. You can replace just the woofers with woofers, and not buy a speaker system. If your tweeters are still good (they probably last longer), and the sound of them doesn't bother you, you can try a couple of these in the front: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=299-603 --- or you can go even cheaper if you just want something that works: http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=2175179.22514&pid=1927 - I know 5.25" will fit, but I'm not sure if it will need a spacer ring (WhiteBird?)

If your subs are bad as well, I believe these should fit with a spacer: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-832 - or you can go for the ED EU-700 that a lot of people here like, though it costs a bit more.

Oh, and if your hatch speakers are bad, just unplug them and don't replace them.

Thanks!!! Right now just the rear seat speakers are bad (as far as I know) I took one of them out and it had cracked all along the seam!!!
