Stereo & Electronics - door switch

When I open the rt side door the dome light does not turn on, the stereo does not turn off, and when I close the door the stock alarm does not get activate. On the lt side all of this stuff works but not on the rt side. The mechanic told me it was just a door switch, but I do not know exactly what he was referring to. I was thinking that if it is just a switch I can probably do it instead of paying but does anybody know the name of this part, so that I can look for it. Would appreciate the help, Thanks

The door switch is commonly called just that - the door switch. However, our cars (98-up) don't have the traditional plunger switch that most cars do. Ours have a switch that is part of the door latch mechanism. Sometimes they just get gummed up from road grime so you might want to try spraying some contact cleaner in the area and see if that solves the problem before spending money on a new switch.
