Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - Do L92 heads fit older style blocks?

I have a 2003 mercruiser motor (boat) and saw that it has a 4.00" bore and was curious if the L92 stuff would work on it. I assume they haven't started using the lsx stuff in boats yet.

I know the LT1 stuff had reverse flow cooling but I thought the lsx stuff has more conventional cooling. I really don't know anything about the bolt patterns, etc.

The L92's will only fit gen III style LS blocks with a 4"+ bore......so if that's what you have, yes they'll fit. If not, no they won't.

The LT1 was based on the SBC, where as the LSx stuff was a 100% fresh new redesign. No heads will interchange between the 2 syles of engine.

Ok, thanks.

I had heard that AFR is redoing their heads for previous generation small blocks which I assume would bring them to the lsx level of performance.

I don't know about that, but their new eliminator heads are pretty damn good. I think hot rod magazine tested the 195s and they flowed 288/225 @ .600.
