the CDT CL-6EX 6.5 in their doors? I have some on order and wonder how to wire them up.I assume that they will have two hook ups instead of the monsoon 4 wire. If not,I'll be using the infinity 62.7i for the doors. Thanks

Hi, sorry I didn't get back to you quicker...try this...it has your answer and then some!!

All about wiring aftermarket in the Camaro!! And yes the CDT's will work!!

Ahhh.I thought you may chime in. :) so eventhought the speakers are different,I can wire the CDT the same way? I assume that theres a capacitor somewhere on them to keep from blowing the tweeter?

Basically, yes. I haven't looked at the CDT speaker to see where the wires to the tweet are run. In the Alpine it actually runs through the middle of the magnet on the back. This makes it easy to access the tweeter wires. I haven't seen the CDT coax in person but it will have a capacitor somewhere and wires running to it. I think judging by some others I've seen that it will run in a similar fashion as Infinity's are run the same as the Alpines. Seems to be a common way to get the wire to the tweet.

When I get them,I'll give you a shout and maybe you can help me out with the wiring?

Basically 2 options.....modify the speaker so you can use all four wires /OR/ use the 2 woofer wires only to power your new speaker.
It's that or an aftermarket amp since HUs like to "see" 4 ohm impedances...you should probably amp them down the road anyway, if you want to get the most out of them since they can handle up to 75wRMS.

The best thing to do would be to just get a 5ch as planned and run the door and sail panel speakers off the amp and not worry about the Monsoon amp? Then I can use the 5th channel for a sub. Sounds like alot of re-wiring.

I don't know these speakers though -- could someone please explain to me:
---
(1) Do you NEED the crossover/treat them as components or can it act as a coax speaker as well?
(2) Factory tweeter impedances are 4 ohms - is that a problem, considering this is a 2 ohm set?

There is no seperate crossover for these however there is the typical small capacitor for the tweet just like any other coaxial speaker in the mid level price range.
As far as impedance, the CDT's are 4 ohm yes but they are way more efficient and are more sensitive than most speakers. Therefore the impedance isn't as much of an issue. The issue we are having is I don't have the speaker in front of me to find where they ran the wires for the tweets. Some, like the Alpine and Infinity have them running down the middle, under the sticker on the back of the magnet into the center of the voice coil and out to the tweeter in the middle. This being the case it is very easy to tap into those wires for the tweeter. I haven't seen where they are run on the CDT coax so I can't say for sure where to tap in them. I only know the components from them. We'll just have to see when he gets them!!

-The 62.7i's do have a separate crossover, and
-I wasn't referring to the 4ohm CDTs -- I wasn't sure if the 2 ohm tweeters for the 62.7i's would be a problem since factory tweeter impedance is 4 ohms. I know 4 ohm speakers work fine, I just didn't know if anyone had problems with the tweeters on aftermarket 2 ohm sets. Either way, it appears not due to the low power being fed to them, and because it seems like this would be talked about more if it was a problem.

Sorry, misunderstood!! So far as I know no one has any issues with the Infinity's except for they sound a little brighter than most. I have heard them and think they sound a little bright but they sound fine none the less. I have also listened/owned the the reference series 6012i and the 6010is coax's. Both sounded good as well even though they were 4 ohm, just not much thump in the bass but good midrange. The Boston's I had seem to have more thump in the bass and the tweeters were not as harsh as the Infinity. The best I've had in my doors so far were the component CL-6 CDT's I have now though. Lots of bass and great midrange. Tweeters are 1" silk dome which aren't harsh in the highs reproduction. These are basically entry level CDT's and they blow away alot of other's top brands.

So prob for the misunderstanding - thanks for the info!
So...as far as the crossover....?? As far as I can read on Crutchfield, they DO have one - and you can see it at SonicElectronix.com picture.... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4296.html

I've looked for pictures to see if I could tell how the tweet was connected, but can't find any.

Do you really want to modify your new speakers? You'll get about the same amount of power running wires from your Eclipse HU.....

I'll do whatever seems to be the best thing. If the eclipse hu is running the monsoon amp,how would I rewire them?

Cut the wires for the front speakers, and extend the appropriate wire from your HU into the front doors. IMO, that is by far the best option since you will get about the same power (maybe a little better quality too), and don't have to snip apart your new speakers...
Even if you get the 62.7i's I would do this, but run the wires to their crossover instead - and then to the woofer/tweeter terminals....

Ok. Let me see if I get this now. I basically can disconnect the wires from Eclipse Hu harness that feed the wires on the car wiring harness side then just wire them up like a regular set of speakers? If the 62.7i has crossovers, and I did the same thing ,would I still have 4 wires to hookup? If I use the two wires that power the speakers from the hu to go to the crossovers, wouldn't I only have two wires instead of 4 that was part of the 2ohm setup?

Yea still 4 wires (that's the point of crossovers/components) with the 62.7i's - you would run from the HU to the crossover inputs, then from the corresponding outputs to the appropriate speaker terminals.

Excellent. Then the CDT speakers would just be hooked up like a regular set of speakers from the hu and the 62.7i would go from the speaker out from the hu to the crossovers then to the speakers?

All this is giving me a headache. :jest:I think that I'm just going to get a 5ch amp and then use it to power whatever speakers I want to use in the front doors and sail panels and rewire everything. That way when I get a sub,I will already have an amp for it also.Seems to me that this would be my best way of doing things and quit worrying about the ohms difference. I do think that I'll hook up the CDT or Infinity 62.7i just to see how they sound until I get an amp here.
