Hey just got a trans am very recently. I'm very new to this setup I see it has 6speakers now.. most stereos come with a 4channel speaker thing not 6 so can anyone help me maybe with picking them out? I'm looking on www.crutchfield.com right now as this is the last place I bought speakers for another car and I trust them and know there reliable. I'm trying to stick with all alpines but going to try and stay low priced but don't want crap. Need stereo head unit, front door speakers, back seat, then the ones in the trunk which seem like 4inchers now this is where the problem comes in.. I can figure out the 4speakers but then in the trunk what would happen with the speakers back there? Anyone who has a after market sound system in there maro or trans am would be a great help msg me on aim at tlshko if you want as well I'm just trying to stay under like $500 or around that range. Thanks

forget the trunk/hatch speakers

dragonrage will soon share his opinion about your decision to shoot for Alpine

HU - whatever you like/features you need...

Front doors you can make anything work generally, rear sails you have somewhat less mainstream choices since they are "midbass/subs" unless you for some reason wanted something else back there and plan on adding a sub as well... IMO, these are currently the best replacement for the price, and ESPECIALLY since you have a Trans Am with DVC subs there already. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=639901

do a search - there is tons of info (start with the FAQ since you are new to this system..will also answer why there are 6 speaker locations/8 speakers)

Crutchfield is awesome....but shop around before you buy from them - sometimes their price is close en enough that is worth their customer service/etc... check out SonicElectronix.com

Sorry - the "subs" are the speakers in the sail panels, or, the area right next to your head if you were to sit in the back seat. They are more "midbass" since they don't reproduce lower freqs well, or...basically any frequency with any authority - but they ARE receiving only low frequencies from the factory amp (read FAQ about this amp/location/etc).

Below is DIRECTLY from the FAQ......actually, its the FIRST post in the FAQ.

Can I use my steering wheel controls with a afermarket head unit?

Yes the steering wheel controls can still be used as long as the aftermarket head unit uses a infrared remote control.
The most common interface is made by pac called a SWI-X
