My Camaro is celebrating her 10th birthday this year. August of 1997 is when she rolled out of St.Therese Canada. I know I have one of the oldest LS1 Camaros on the site, but one question has been plaguing me lately; just how old is my car? I have searched this board for an answer to this question. And I have found quite a few threads that reference the build dates of members’ cars. But is there a way of confirming via the VIN code, as to when the production of LT1 - Fourth Generation F-Bodys ended, and the LS1's were installed?
As a point of curiosity, I would like to find out just how many units were produced prior to mine being built. My car was special ordered through a dealer here in Pennsylvania, and was the first one that arrived on the carrier to Sugg Chevrolet in September. I have confirmed all of this with my neighbor that originally ordered the car May 28 1997. He gave me the original order sheet, from that date and the dealer’s order brochure for the car. I know none of this will increase my car’s monetary value, but it will complete my understanding of the car’s history.
Has there ever been a thread that VIN production numbers were discussed?
Does anyone know of a reference to forward this question to?
Do you think Scott Settlemire, or General Motors would answer my question if I forwarded it to them?
Thank you,
