Today I plugged in one Pyramid 6.5" "sub" in place of my Camaro's factory sub. Even though the aftermarket speaker could play a little lower, overall it did not sound better. It is possible that I was hearing distortion from the Monsoon amp. The Pyramid was a 4 ohm speaker. It is possible that when properly amped it could sound OK, but I'll stay stock for now. If my factory speaker was blown, the Pyramid would be a decent replacement for about $20. I wasn't trying to break any SPL records. Just wanted to see if an inexpensive speaker would sound better than stock. It didn't sound much better when listening to rock. Rap...maybe.

I wouldn't invest anything in amping these separately -- if you're going to go that route - ditch the Pyramids. I think the factory speakers might be of better quality than those are...

What is it that didn't sound good? Volume? Quality? or just, everything?

Don't worry. I wasn't planning on amping the Pyramids. They sounded similar to the factory speakers but played about 10-15 Hz lower. They distorted less than factory but I think that it's due to the 4 ohm impedence compared to the factory speaker's 2 ohm. I sat on the driveshaft hump and listened for about a half an hour. The factory speaker was on my left. The Pyramid was on my right. I listened to Paul Okenfold's Bunkka album. It has lots of different bass rythms. The factory speakers played louder (2 ohm) than the Pyramids. Like I said earlier, if my speakers were blown I might consider the Pyramids. I'll stay stock until my Alpine 9885 gets here.

On a side note: I installed JL's VR series 6.5" component set up front with the tweeters in a pod (by the mirror) and they sound amazing. Can't wait to hear them more.

If anyone is interested, I will be installing those same Pyramid 6.5" subs into a Formula, to see how they sound as a replacement with that monsoon system.

So stay tuned.

You will probably be disappointed -- especially since you will only be able to use one pair of wires per side. They are only possibly decent at best for the Camaro because we have SVC subs there to begin with, rather than DVC.
