Cliff notes. GM wants to get 1 more model from Zeta platform. Opinions at C&D and GM are that Lutz (CEO of GM) doesn't want anything to be too closely related to the Camaro, so GTO is most likely. Firebird is the only other possibility. However, if it is the GTO, it will be completely redesigned. Engine/Tranny combo will most likely be 3.6L, 261-HP, DOHC V6 with A5 or 5-speed stick OR the LS2 - 6.0L Pushrod V8 w/ 362 HP, and an A6 or THE 6-speed stick.

There they are quoting the powertrains of the upcoming G8.
Except they got it wrong, it's the L76, not the LS2. And I'm not so sure that 5-speed transmissions will be used, might all be 6-speeds.

Odds are if it happens it would be GTO.

That's what I really want to see. A Le Mans with the same engine/drivetrain combos as the G8, except it gets a Hi-Po big-cube engine in GTO spec. I'd buy one! Hell, I'd buy a Car named Le Mans over an alpha-numeric nameplate anyday. But G7 don't sound too bad..I guess.

GTO is NOT a pony car. Do not twin it with one. The only just thing to do is to bring back the Firebird.

America didn't care about the GTO in the 70s. The Firebird survived. America didn't care about the GTO when lutz tried to bring it back either.

Who wants to write a letter and send it to kLutz? Set him straight on this whole firebird vs. gto business. I really think America NEEDS the Firebird back. I need it at least. I'm sure I'll drive it straight from the showroom floor to the shop for some mods, but oh well.

I always thought the more recent chickens looked a lot more like the vette than the camaro. And I thought it was kinda dumb because although all 3 are GM's, the firebird is the odd Pontiac out.

Whatever body style, I wouldn't mind having myself an LS2 with a 150 shot. Heat up that stir fry real nice.

The '92 Corvette Covertible and '92 Firebird Covertible were VERY close with the top down....

Lets put it this way...why is Pontiac and GM Performance still promoting the GTO at all their racing venues? I have VIP tickets to showcase my car at the Grand AM Rolex GT race at Mid-Ohio along with 50 other GTOs on June 23. They just did this same thing on June 9th at Watkins Glen.

On July 1 I have VIP tickets from Pontiac to showcase my car again at inaugural NHRA event at Summit Raceway Motorsports Park (Formerly Norwalk Raceway).

...so ask yourself why keep on promoting the GTO name a year after production has stopped. ...that's because it's coming back as planned.

There are much more accurate quotes on LS1GTO.com. ...and neither of those engines will be in the next GTO. ;)

are you being sarcastic... that banshee concept is hideous... yuckko..... and for my personal preference i think they should drop the gto because the birds have always been better.. but thats just my opinion... but gto sales arent that hot... maybe the birds and t/a would sell better... keeping the f-body's alive...
