Although it's a 1st gen and a bit narrower, I have 2" headers on my 67 Camaro. I had to clearance the steering box on the left and the front stud for the upper control arm on the right. Both required a small dimple and were easily accomplished with a ball peen hammer and a regular hammer. I did this before I had them coated. Hope this helps.
P.S.: I've had to do this with every make of header I tried to fit on my 67 thru the years. Some cleared the stud, but all had to be dinged if using a power steering gear box. I once had a BB car with manual steering and they (Hooker headers) cleared due to the shorter gear box but they hung pretty low to the ground and I ended up with half round collectors after a while.

I think I have 2 7/8" hooker super comps in my 71.
It was years ago when I put them in so I'm not sure.
They went in easy.
I tried to put a set of 3" first and hammered and smacked them atound alot but never got them to fit.
Dont bother getting the ceramic coating, it cost alot and about last 2 years, now they look like rusted shit. Nice for 700bucks :eyes:
I can sell you the 3", maybe with a little more hammering you could get them to fit. 1/2 price 350.
