I have a new 468 i built. Was dynoed last year and made 600 on dyno and ran great. It set in the shop 8 months before getting it in a car. The problem is between 2000 and 4000 in has a popping sound but clears out when you rev it through.. It sounds like its loading up but i dont know much about setting carbs. It's got a new 1050 dominator on it. Thats pretty sad, I can put the motor together but cant tune the carb, lol. I know its not in the ignition because with my old motor it didnt do it. Anyone know where my problem could be?

there is alot of things it could be!check your plug wires, that there on all the way,not burnt, cracked cap, rotor bad, coil not grounded.i dont think your carb has a power valve or i would say it could be that.

That definitely sounds like it would be ignition. Have you checked your cap and rotor? Is it MSD stuff? They're known for corroding and turning to crap after sitting for an extended period of time. I've gone through 3 caps and rotors in 3 years after the car sits over the winter. I'd check all of that before you start playing with the carburetor.

the seal in the carb may have dried out. also did you back the rockers off while it sat?

Its all MSD. I dont think thats it because with my 396 its all fine. I put same distributor and all on this engine and i now have this engine out and in another car thats not running yet but i put the 396 back in and it was ok.

No. I didnt back them off. Once it gets through the popping around 2500 it revs to 7200 very fast.

are you overcarbed?1050 seems a little big for a 600 h.p motor
