Trying to get my JBL 608 GTI (http://www.jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=C608GTI&Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA&cat=COS&ser=GTI) components in the front. Pain in the butt. The tweeter does not seem to fit nicely in the existing spot.

And the cross over is huge. Not sure where to put it. Don't really want to drop it into the door but might have to..no room between the panal and door as far as i can find.

Could also bring it into the car and put them under the dash.

Has anyone else mounted these JBLs in the Trans Am? Or any ideas?

Damn, should have asked before bought the set, the tweeter mostlikely will not fit, and for the crossover i have JBL Power components in the front. do you plan on running the stock monsoon amp? because if you you do not need a crossover because there is a crossover built in the amp, for the mid, and for the tweeter, it runs of the HU and there is an inline crossover.
But if you really want to run the jbl crossover i driled two holes in my inner part of the door so that the panel covers them, and mounted my crossover in there.

I am running a different amp...so probably want to use the cross over. Will look into putting them in the door. The GTIs were pretty expensive..hopefully they sound good!

ok, what do you plan on doing for the hatch speakers? After you answer that i have an idea of what you can do, and make it "pretty"

Also that Infinty 7541a amp is going to be a lot of power for the JBL p652.

7541 will do thje GTIs as well as the 652s.

Not sure if i will put anything in the hatch. Figure i should? What is your idea?

Also..not sure where i will put the amps/caps. Maybe try and get them in the spare tire spot.

I like to put crossovers under the back seats. Sure, you use a little more wire that way, but they are easy to get to when needed, fit perfectly.

Heres what you can do...
Hatch speaker you can get the P6452 its a 4x6" i have that in my hatch speaker, all you need is a coping saw and a dril to make it fit, i am sure you can figure it out.

You should use your stock speaker wireing that your monsoon amp was hooked up to the out puts, dont even think about useing the inputs, put wire nuts on the inputs and tape them up, you will not use them.

You should mount your amps like mine.. if you like the look. This is my thread http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=741294

From your amp for the speakers, (NOT the subs) get speaker wire, and make extentions so that they will reach the factory out puts.
Under neath your subthump box there is about 6 inches of room your crossovers for the door speakers can go under there, and run wires from your speaker amp to the crossovers then to the factory out puts, you will notics that there is no tweeter out puts thats because your HU will power the tweeters, so for the crossovers only hook up the mid driver NOT the tweeter.

For your Side panle and hatch speaker (one sides of tha car, right set or left set) hook them up so you get a 2 ohm load so that a total power will be in the 150 watt range at 2ohms, and since its going to 2 diffrent speakers that will be split in two so that each speaker will be geting about 75 watts.

To figure which wires are what speakers, and what the out puts the stickys have that info. heres the link.

Let me know if that helps.

Very nice.

But..i am wanting my amps more hidden. (And i have not spare tire) So that might be a good place for them. Or..maybe can put one of them under the sub thump box.

You can put the crossovers and the amps where your spare tire goes. just dont put the amps underneath the box, there is no air movement so the amps will just keep building up heat which is really bad.

But do you get the idea with the crossovers to put them in back rather than in with the front speakers?

Why do i want my deck to do the front tweeters and then my cross over just for the mid? I understand what you did..but do not get why i would do that.

THanks alot for the time!

Gordon?

Or anyone else explain to me why he is recommending this.

I did not work on it last night, cause this will change how i do things if i go with it.

The reason for that is because the wireing is allready there, but i am changing it so that my tweeters are powered off my alpine amp, and i also do plan on changing my tweeters(jbl makes crap for tweeters), it really dosnt matter what powers the tweeters when i did my install i figured since the aftermarket HU isnt powering anything i didnt want the power go to waste so i did to the tweeters.

It would be easier if i do this, since i have lots of room for crossover in the back. But...am i not losing something since there is no cross over in front of those tweeters?

Well if you want to run thoes JBL tweeters off the JBL crossovers you will have to run wires so that the tweeters can get the power, so you would have to run wires from the back of the car to the front door because the factory out puts from the factory amp only has the mid-woofer, no tweeter out puts, so you will have to run extra wires to the left and right door.

yeah..i realized that..do not want to do that. But if i mounted the cross over up front, then i would not have to do that.

I am trying to choose between cross over up front (not sure where) and both tweeter and mid being powered by the infinity amp

OR

Cross over in the back, only affecting the mid. Tweeter powered by my deck.

I like the 2nd option, but just not sure what i am loosing by not having the cross over in the mix for the tweeter.

Well maybe you can mount the crossover in the door some where, but make sure it doesnt interfere with the window, you also might be able to put the crossover underneath the dash bored, that wouldnt be too hard to run an extention wire there then to the tweeter and woofer.
