I used a dremel tool to cut the plastic part of that off. Once that little bit was gone, I folded the metal portion of it down and crimped it down as best I could. That worked fine for me.

maaan I figured that was going to be the solution, I was hoping it wasn't and there was something else I hadn't taken into account.

That is exactly what i had to do to get my unit in, i used the humount.com. I had the unit in before, using a wal-mart brand install kit. It fit fine, went to put the humount.com one in and my radio did the same thin kept hitting that support.
Dremmeled it off.

i went over it a few times with a razor blade and snapped it clean off...

I just bent mine back, took 2 seconds.

Yea I never go for the dremel.....I've done it on 2 cars by just bending it back with your fingers or pliers until it snaps off -- you'll only feel guilty afterwards for about 4 seconds.

Yeah after reading this I just took some pliers and snapped the plastic part off and bent the metal piece. Still had a hard time fitting it so I undid the black plastic box (alarm brain?) thats on the right and moved it. Even after that it just barely fits.

I was driving around with it in tonight and the radio reception is bad. It never was with the stock HU. Although I do have a shorty antenna for appearance purposes, I wonder if thats the problem.

I like the look. Much better than many other head unit installs I have seen around here. Many times in this area the people just let the unit hang out that extra half inch or whatever and it looks awful.

Ah, my DRL's drive me crazy so I guess I don't care then, I'll probably disable them in the near future. But yeah my father just bought a new car and bought a lifetime subscription to sirius sat radio as part of a package, maybe I'll do that instead of normal FM radio.

BTW, that "Lifetime" subscription is for the life of the receiver, not your life.

As long as he doesn't change the radio and it doesn't fail.
If the radio fails, Mercedes might be nice and transfer the subscription to the warranty replacement (but not aftermarket), but if the subscription is handled through Sirius (most-likely), then it probably won't transfer.

Sirius just recently changed their lifetime subscription to allow receiver replacement up to three times for a $75 service charge each time.

But there's another "gotcha" with their lifetime subscription - you're not allowed to add additional receivers for $6.95/month like you can with an ordinary subscription. So if you have more than one radio, you pay for the lifetime subscription on one and you still have to pay a full regular subscription on the others. Kinda kills all the savings!

Sirius wouldn't know (or care) whether it's factory or aftermarket. They just substitute the new ESN for the old one on the account (and take their $75). However, I don't know if that offer applies to OEM subscriptions or only to retail sales of lifetime subscriptions. It would probably be a good idea to call Sirius and find out before buying a replacement radio if you're in that situation.

Last month they were offering the lifetime subscriptions for only $399...$100 off the usual price. Even at that price you'd have to keep the service for over 30 months for it to pay off (add about 6 months for each time you switch radios).
