I can build anything if I know the parts. Can't remember a safe way to drop down a dc circuit. I need it to fit into a 3" x 3" compartment, if possible.

I want to use a 18v drill battery to power a 12v light bulb. It's a trick a bunch of the big guys use. I tried running it from the battery and already burned up 2 bulbs. Thanks guys.

why are you trying to power a 12v bulb with an 18 volt battery?, but anyway here is a design using two 741 op amps

Thank you, I will try to get to radio shack asap.

The problem is I'm trying to see in the car at night. When the main power is off then what do I do. So I have an old cheap 18v tool set. I was taking an idea the pro's use for powering stuff with drill batteries. The problem is the company is gone and I can't find 18v bulbs. I made some 12v bulbs fit, but they burn out after ~10 minutes. If I get the circuit to work well, I may use it for other stuff. I might have to break down & buy some 12v drill batteries, if I can't make it work. I was just trying to use the old 18v set I already have, just being cheap.

Thanks again.

Wouldn't the easy solution be to just turn the dimmer knob all the way up to turn on the interior lights?

It's a striped down model, I was too cheap to buy an interior.
