I know this sounds stupid, but does the inner door panel have to be removed to replace the door speaker or just the plastic grill?

It is very easy to do. Once you've done it one time, you can do it again in about 10 min. And if your replacing stock speakers with stock speakers...you will be doing it again unfortunately. I recommend saving your money and learning how to do it considering how easy it really is.

Just replaced my door speakers this weekend. Getting the door panel off is not too bad - I was able to keep the section with the locks and window buttons attached and manuver the rest of the panel off. If you have the Monsoon system, there's some good info on this forum about the speaker configuration - the door speakers have separate pairs of wires for the tweeter and the woofer so they won't hook right up to coaxial speakers. I got the CDT CL-61CV components from Kee Audio and they worked out great!

if your doing just the door speaker and not the tweeter, you can do it by just taking the speaker grille off. I've done it a couple times. It'll save you from dealing w/ getting the door off and potentially breaking all those tabs and stuff. Just gotta have some nimble hands, or find someone that does.
