Does anyone know the quickest et. & most mph out of a automobile (top fuel or other)?I say this cause its hard for me to believe or imagine what i just read in Oct. issue page 49 of HotRod magazine.

Andy Jensen (spelling) had a 6.20 on a Vette. That's the fastest I've seen in videos.

I just got interest and I googled it and this came up.

3.58 in a rocket car. Had 20,000+ Horsepower and used fuel that Nasa would use and the engine were from Abrams tanks or something. Not really a car...but interesting nonetheless.

You would not want to use an Abrams engine for a racecar.

Not that a Top Fueler would run that, but you do know that the NHRA
limits those cars tremendously in a lot of different ways that control
ET's & trap speeds.

And, they talked all about passing tech inspections and regulations and stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Abrams' run jet fuel since they use a turbine engine.

You're def. right about that! Safety has become a leading issue with the NHRA, as the speeds and danger were starting to get out of control a few years back. People were either making a record run or hitting the wall in a ball of fire. I think I read someplace that they outlawed final drive ratios lower than 3.20 (3.2 engine rotations to one rear axle rotation) in an effort to limit top speed potential.

Jet fuel is kerosene...nothing to brag about.

Unit, how much do they limit those things? How much faster could they be made?

One of the biggest crutches is that they went from 100 percent nitro down to 85 percent. That went into effect mostly because of so many oil downs on the track.Which in turn was causing to much delay for live T.V.

I'm old enough that I got to see the hydrogen peroxide cars run. Impressive.

My guess is that unlimited Top Fuel cars, using moden technology, could run low 4s and high 300s.
