Hey guys i just replaced my 305 tpi with a 350, before i took the 305 out it was idleing at ~1200rpms, i thought it could have been a vacume leak somewhere, but after rebuilding the 350 and making sure that all the gaskets were fine it still does the same!!

Heres my setup, 96 4 bolt main 350, flat top pistons, new rings/bearings/seals/gaskets etc, roller cam .488/.495 264/269, 1.6 rocker arms, mildly ported vortec heads, valve springs rated @ like 550, 52mm TB, airfoil, 19# injectors @ 53psi of fuel, walbro 255 intank fuel pump, msd ignition coil, msd dizzy cap/rotor, 160degree stat, shorty headers, 3200 stall converter, shift kit, 2.73 gears, 2.5"downpipe, 3" borla exhaust!

What do you guys think is wrong with it? i would like it to idle @ ~800!! thanks in advance!

If you are using the factory TPI off the 305 i think you might want to clean the idle air maybe. You need to have a chip burned anyways, so if the chip being burned doesnt help too i dont know what to tell you.

The iac could be bad, also if the brake booster was bad and leaking it could cause a high idle.

Did you replace or at least clean the IAC? Carbon build up in the TB will cause funny things to happen. Is the TB closing correctly? The computer can only control so much airflow, if the TB isn't closing, then you can't idle down. Also, you added a bit mroe displacement, better get the thing programmed. How does it run otherwise?

is the coolant sensor working correctly... does the car stumble when driving it? does it start hard?

May be an air leak. A gasket could have move during the installation.

well i havent gotten around to cleaning the sensor yet, but i did replace the ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor b/c they were misfunctioning and the rpms drpped down to like 1000-950, but its still pretty high! What i've also noticed when the car is cold it takes a bit to start up, but once its warm it doesn take as long but still doesnt start "right up". The car runs perfectly fine and strong, pulls like crazy. as soon as i get some 3.42 gears and some 24-26# injectors i am gettin a custom prom for it from tpichips.com.
I will clean the iac sensor tomorrow and see if it helps, how can i check to see if the sensor is bad??

thanks for your help guys!

you can watch its actual operation with a scan tool. Also make sure to confirm that there are no vacuum leaks..

check n double check the bolts on the tpi injection
also like said befor the coolant temp sensor and iac should be checked
the injectors and a prom will help alot

the guy at tbichips.com has burned me a few chips for tbi/tpi cars and is very ver y knowlegdeable and friendly

when he was doing his RS buildup i was building my tbi formula we talked for months and learned a few things from each other. that was years ago when he was starting off and he knew his S*** then!
