i have a white Z/28 RS with an SS hood and i've heard of people putting lights in either the SS or WS6 hood. i was wondering if anyone has pictures of that or if y'all think it's a bad idea or too rice. i was gonna do some red ones since i'm doing a white/black/red theme on my car.

Doesn't look that bad. I wouldn't do it on a Camaro though, but I guess if you had a black WS6 you could tell all your friends you were going for the Knight Rider look. :D

a cold cathode that cannon be directly seen, just the glow, might not look too bad, but not my taste. mount it lower and put aluminum tape to reflect the light out

Yeah... I wouldn't do it. Lights that don't serve a purpose are... well, I understand that people are easily fascinated with shiny, bright, or colorful things (including myself). You just gotta let these ideas pass or you end up with rice IMO.

You should check about what's legal. You mentioned a red glow in there; that might get you pulled over as I think in my state any red lights up front are taboo.

first off!... dont listen to these guys who say dont do it... its your car, do what you want...

second... i did mine cuz it was cheap and gave me something different from everyone else... if you dont like it, oh no! you just spent 20 bucks! dont eat fast food for a week... problem solved

third... ALOT of people think it looks good... the people on here are going to tell you not to because they don't like it... i love the people on here, its definitly my favorite forum and im on almost every day... but when people start talking about things being "ricey" it just gets out of hand... some people just need to respect others opinions... if things are done in good taste, your fine...

--from my point... im an electronics guy... not so much mechanical... so lights and different things i can do in that field are just more fun...

*bottom line* Do what YOU want, and have FUN with it! :D

He's asking for opinions to help him to decide if he wants to go through with it. That is the point of his post. He cares what other people think.

That is true... Sorry, didn't realize he wanted to hear opinions... I guess when people were going real bad into how rice it is it kinda bugs me... cuz as you can see... I have them on my car! haha

yeah, careful with red/blue lights in the front. might be considered illegal

Not only is that rice, but I think it's illegal because they lights are blue.

Just to clarify, I agree with your opinion. The 95 in my sig has drawn a lot of unwanted opinions. Seeing it from a picture and then in person has two distinct effects. The car is gaudy but it's what I like and I happen to like your cool light effects. None the less, opinions are like *ssholes - we should all have one but mostly keep it hidden. :secret2:

haha nice... yes, technically the lights are illegal... BUT... isnt not having cats also illegal? and how many people have done that?!... and if not that, then im pretty sure almost all of us could get tickets for being too loud (i got pulled over for this in my old van that was too loud, -not ANY louder then my car now!-)

the noise ordinance or whatever for cars is extremely rediculous... TECHNICALLY i believe the dB calculated out figures up to be like if your car can be heard from like 30ft away, then its too loud. haha

just be smart about it... have them off at the right times and on at the right times...

when i first got mine i wasnt really sure if it was illegal and had heard that people said they think it is, but chances are you wont get pulled over from it... then, maybe a dumb move, but i was drivin over to a friends house and there was a cop sitin outside the addition so i turned on my blue lights and drove right in front of him and he didnt do anything... maybe he didnt see them, i dont know... just dont be dumb... :D

They don't look bad. But why?

01Z28M6
11-28-2007, 11:40 AM
Can I answer that?

After the buffing and waxing didn't seem to say it well enough, I put a custom hood, SS wing, late model wheels, covers and stripes on my 95 because the modifications make me feel like the car is special. I love to walk out to the car and look it over. It has the most beautiful lines this side of a Z06. It is like no other on the road and to me the car is art. That is why people add effects, frills, lights and cosmetics. We love our ride and unique changes that make it stand out to tell the world that this car is someones prized possession and not just another nice looking automobile.

I'm kinda diggin it. I'd only want them to be on the hoodscoop and no where else. I think they'd look better on an SS

same goes for any color not white, orange, brown, amber for most states...i've gotten that fix-it ticket before back in the day (when i was 16):emb:

Depends on the state. Here in Ohio my brother has a neon license plate bracket that he had on the back of the car. Cop pulled him over and said he couldn't have it there because it makes reading the plate at night hard, but told him he could have it on the front since it isn't the primary plate. He swapped it and no problems since. Basically, here the color is OK, as long as it doesn't flash or pulse. Only real light color requirements are headlights have to be white (a little yellow or blue tint from halogen or HID is fine naturally), signals have to be yellow/orange. Yeah, most ricers around here don't get too far with their bright blue turn signals ;)

Definitely check this out..... I have a blue panasonic head unit in my truck and got pulled over for its "resemblance to police equipment" a few years back. (no ticket though) My response was "if I was allowed to tint my windows how I wanted you wouldn't know about it".

What he said.

I like the glow without the light source visable. I'm sure many folks dislike my scoop, but keep silent, so I'll leave my response at this.

Over the summer, I put two blue 5-led boxes into my SS hood scoop, facing down the scoop. Covered it all with a polished stainless grille from miffinbuster on ebay, and wired it to an independant switch in the cabin. The light sources are completely hidden, and it just gives this deep blue glow inside the scoop. I really like the look of it, and get nothing but compliments from anyone who sees it in person.

It is definitely illegal in this state, and would get me hassled in this area. I only really turn it on to show people, or as part of a show when my blue neons and 8000k low beams and fogs are on as well. Yes, I like blue :)

my question is how to wire it on the ss hood without it looking pretty ugly under the hood, i guess you could see who cares im the only one that sees that but i would like to know seems like it would be hard to get the same effect since the you would have to mount it close to the scoop which would leave quite a bit of wire lurking aroudn the hood area wouldnt it???

If you have to ask, then it's too much.
