Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - Best rings for nitrous

I am updating my 406 while the Nova is in the body shop for paint:

This engine has been together for the past 5 years (or is it 6 now?). After running a lot of nitrous through it and a fair amount of street miles, the rings are pretty worn out. I like the sound of the Total Seal rings, but thier add recommends them only for "mild nitrous". What the heck is "mild" nitrous? So far I have only been spraying 250 hp from a Cheater kit, but I may step up to a Big Shot plate next year. I have been using the Hastings chromemoly rings that came with the Weisco pistons.

I have had great results with the Ackerly & Childs Extreme piston rings.

Thanks for the ring ideas. I'll check into both of them. The bad thing is this evening when I was finished disassembling the short block, I found the #8 oil ring had come out of the groove a little, leaving a pretty bad groove in the bore. I don't think it will clean up at .040", so I may have to sleeve #8. I had this block drilled and line bored for splayed mains back 5 years ago, so it already has some money in it. A new Dart block just isn't in my budget right now. The Nova will be out of the paint shop in the next week or so, but I guess it will have to wait on me getting the engine back together. Here is a picture of it in the paint booth this morning.

hellfire

I dropped off the block at a machine shop this evening to have the #8 cylinder re-sleeved. Looks like the Hellfire rings get strong support from a couple of pretty heavy hitters. Maybe they will help wake up my sleepy ride too.

They take the heat better, you'll like them. A lot of guys have gone very fast with them.

I haven't made any progress with the engine build, but I did get the car back home today. It will take me a while to collect new bumpers, windshield, misc. pieces to compliment the new paint plus build the motor. It should be ready by spring though.
