There is nothing wrong with my tranny at the moment but, I would like to have it rebuilt before something does happen. How much is an average price on a rebuild fo the 4L60E auto in a 99' Z28? or would it be better to just buy another(price wise, and performance wise)?
I have been fighting with myself over which i should do. but it all comes down to $. Oh BTW I live in North MS. Do you know of anyone who could rebuild close to here?

All depends on how much you want to spend and how heavy duty you want the trans...
Take a look on Speed Inc's webpage, they do good rebuilds...and offer different stages..

So if i get the stage 2 it is $1500 for rebuild? Core charge $600 already in or i pay $2100 and when my tranny gets there they refund me?

You will get refunded...
I believe they already have cores that they build the transmissions out of, not too sure on that...
E-mail Tom or Larry at their new e-mail addresses...I think toms is tom@ls1speed.com
Or you can call them tomorrow during the day and discuss it with them...1-847-891-0767

I paid $700, parts & labor, for my 4L60E tranny rebuild from a local speed shop. 9-disc clutch packs, shift kit, the works. You should check your yellow pages & see if there are any speed shops in your area that have experience with 4L60E's. (If they can "build up" a 700R4, they can probably handle your 4L60E.)
Just my $.02... No flames, please.

Transmissions are things that you don't fix UNTIL they are broken. They are EXPENSIVE to fix solely because of the precieved amounted of knowledge required to rebuild one.
The max any company spends for a standard rebuild is like $200 parts.
I'd say wait until it dies to have it done.

Just wondering, but what would the cost be to install all the internals if one has all the parts already?

Leanne,
We have 4L60Es on the shelf that we could sell you, but if I were you I'd just install a shift kit in yours. Depending on your hp level, it may last a long time with just a shift kit installed.
Take Care,

Kevin,
How much do you guys get for the TCI shift kits? How much do they differ from the TransGos?
Thanks

You could possibly get the TCI kit at a lower cost from Summit or Jegs. The shift quality of TCI vs. TransGo, both are about the same feel. Colonel has the TCI kit in his car; ask him about the shift quality. The TransGo kit is more difficult to install, a professional will need to install the kit. The car owner because of the instructions being easy to follow can install the TCI kit. The install time for TCI is about 2 hours (average) and for the TransGo, it is about 4 times as long (about $300 labor).

Several sponsors like speed Inc, Yank and FLP offer tranny's. Rapidmotorsports also offers built tranny's with a good warranty.
Like killer said, a good local shop is a nice option. The problem with mail order tranny's is that if you have a problem, shipping is slow and expensive, even if the repair is handled under warranty.

Ragtop99,
You forgot about one sponsor that offers a complete 4L60E.

leanne,
The TCI kit from TCI is about $65.00. Summit or Jegs is probably a little less. If you would like to talk about installation, please give me a call.

Well m yluck with my POS 4L60E is terrible. Went out afetr a bad converter and had it rebuilt for $1600 and they worked the vb a lil bit instead of using a shift kit, def shifted harder. But now, 3 months later, the damn 3-4 clutches and who knos what else is burnt up again. I dont know what to do, it seems it wasnt rebuilt right or somethin, b/c it shouldnt go out after 3months. Im about to get ill and just sell the car. Find a 6 spd or just go back to the dark side. I love the LS1 but the damn A4 sux nuts, or at least my luck with em. Hopin it wont be up for a rebuild every 3 months, might get expensive.

ggr12,
It seems like the tranny shop just over look something. A shift kit is a lot safer than a guy with a drill and an unsure or unsteady hand!!!! If I was you I would go talk to the tranny shop that did the rebuild and get a shift kit.
How much hp and tq do you have? What stall do you run?

I have lid, MAFends, hooker LTs and ORY. Thats all, no stall. although i did install one a while back and the tranny burnt up before i could get home, only drove liek 5 miles tho but still it was toasted. BUt since the rebuild has been 3 months and its gone again. im thinkin homeboys work on the vb causedd the clutches to burn bc i really doubt the ported MAF ends did it. it just started all of a sudden the other day slippin, no signs of it before at all. i do have a transgo waitin at the house. but im thinkin of just gettin rid the the TA and getttin a new Z, 350Z that is. Tired of parents bitchin about "hotrods" so ill just get a 290hp V6
