the reason why i am wondering if this is possible becaujse my friend says that he is about to buy an 02 gt mustang that has no turbo or supercharger just had an engine swap(5.0L stang engine) and cam and bolt ons. He said it has 580rwhp and he is getting it for 6 grand with less than 10k on the engine... i called bullshit but he says it is so cheep because the fuel system needs to be replaced and the inside is a lil gutted. i am pretty new to cars and racing i bout my 2001 z28 about 10k miles ago and dont no to much about pricing.. do you think this is possible without turbo or supercharger

It just depends on what type of motor it is and how it is set up etc... Could it be a solid roller 13.5:1CR motor who knows. So if you are looking for a $ comparison of HP etc... Don't look at an old Car to make that comparison to cause usually race cars are not that pretty to look at etc... And if it isn't a race car it sounds like it was well on its wat to being one.

Maybe 580 flywheel but that would probably be a high compression motor running race gas

No way on pump 93 with a cam and bolt ons....

Bet him 1000.00 and have him slug it on the dyno and prove the #. It maybe a 5 Liter block but it maybe stroked, its going to be tough to prove.

LOL, don't stock 5.0 blocks crack when they get near that power level, lol :P. Also, I don't care how much you stroke it, that motor won't make that power on pump gas. LSX 402 strokers have trouble doing that.

I call bs 100%. I will put money up on it. Unless he is running race gas, and has 13+cr and a dry sump and spins to 10,500....nah.

Mustang can't make power without a power adder of some kind. I call BS also.

total bs, no way. even h/c bolt ons wont do it if 580 was flywheel and not 580 rwhp

yea thats what i figures i try to tell him there is no way that he is getting a 580hp car with less that 10k on the motor for 6 grand unless there is something seriosly fucked up with it. Well he is suppose to be getting it this week so iwill see

well it wont make it w/o a SC or turbo but N2O might be helping it get to that point. or the engine alone would be a 100% race only motor and no one would be selling it for less than 15g's

no way he is making that power out of that motor...by the way i know a guy that had a 98 cobra and he bought some ford racing motor that was supposed to be so bad ass or whatever. He kept bragging about how it was gonna have 500 hp and when he installed it and got it dynoed it only put down a lil over 300 hp. Needless to say he felt like an idiot especially when my bolt on car put down more power then his did.

Ya you need to tell your buddy to put the crack down. I have seen 5.0 that r turbo'd and supercharged that didn't put down 580.

Just laugh at him alot he'll get pissed and wanna join the lsx community. LOL

Yeah, no way in Hell a 4.6 mod motor will make that kind of power N/A.
I dont care if it is solid lifter'd and 14:1 CR and spinning to 10 grand....not gonna happen.

^I think it's a pushrod 5.0 swap, but either way it's not gonna make that kind of power.

im going to go with the no2 theory! he didnt say it didnt have n02.

Its possible... but stupidly unlikely. It would deff have to be an aftermarket block. No stock 5.0 block NA/N20/Turbo will last at 580whp that I've seen, and its not like they can fix it with some forged internals... its the actual block that blows.

If you factor in a 150 shot for conversation sake, thats still 430rwhp!!! I'm sure there have been well built n/a heads AND cam 302s that have done it, but your normal 'stang won't. My friends 306 with afr's and a decent size cam is only expected to make 320-340rwhp, ofcourse its not built for race only either.

I've seen stroked 5.8's (351) Windsors close to that #, But they were high dollar motors probably out of his price range. $.02

Yep, bogus! After watching hundreds of Small block N/A cars run on the dyno I have only seen 1 break 600 rwhp. Lots of big block and power added cars but just one N/A.

When's he getting this "amazing" car?
