If this is serious, in about a week, I'll invite some guys from Huntsville.

Checking weather though

Oh, it's definitely serious. I have a few TBSS guys from TN, a few from GA, and a few from AL coming. Also have a couple of f-bodies coming. I'm also watching the weather, it's a 3-hr drive for me. ;)

Right now, weather.com is showing highs around 50, and sunny for that weekend. *keeping fingers crossed*

I bent a fuckin wheel @ Steele the first night I ever raced there. I didn't see the holes and hit one @ 120 mph. Shook my damn teeth out the whole way home. About 20 miles outside of ATL I had to pull over at a truck stop, borrow a jack from a truck driver and rotate my bent wheel to the rear.

Ahh, those were the days.

A TBSS is the perfect car to run at steele :)

They did fix it up some, it was pretty nasty a few years ago.

Lol......why is that, because you need an SUV to get down the track? :D

The year before last, you needed a desert rally car to appreciate the top end of the track.

The 2nd 1/8 mile and the shutdown after that is pretty rough. Not as bad as it used to be, for a 120mph car or one that that doesnt sit low its no big deal. I still pucker up a bit from the 660 on but I'll still run there sometimes.

Its kind of like autocrossing and drag racing combined with the shutdown :)

I dont mind paying 30.00 to race if its a decent track, at least they have paved pits, retaining walls and the starting line works well usually. I have nothing against the track at all, hopefully they use that extra money to make some improvements on the racing surface.

Why don't you bring your TBSS down KP? ;)

Its stock, I ran it 1/8 mile in the summer and it ran 9.03 or something with a little tune. I have some parts, headers, converter, CAI and e-fans but I havent touched it. Been driving the redneck limo (black dmax 4 door pickup) lately and the TBSS has been sitting. Has like 950 miles on it lol.

Mine runs 12.90's with a converter, CAI, cuout, tune, and e-fans.....I'm pretty happy with it so far. :)

I was looking for mid 12s and I think it will do it in cooler weather, been busy with the TA lately. I may go and make some 1/8 mile passes in the firebird, its hard to tell the weather lately so I'll wait to the 19th to decide :)

I may go if I can ever get rid of this friggin pneumonia :(

I see the web page is 10.00 entry and 10.00 T&T so I assume its 20.00 now to run.

It's always been $10 to get in and they didn't charge extra to race. They might have changed it to make some extra money. They need to fix the end of the track bad. I've seen so many bikes wreck at the end of the track because that dip.

I don't know if I'd use "professional" and "Gibson" in the same sentence.;)

It's $15.00 to race at MMP every sunday for T&T. Screw paying $30.00 that is a rip off and if the track is in as bad of shape as you say I would not risk tearing my car up. That's BS.

UnbelievabLS1
01-12-2008, 09:41 PM
It's only $20 for TnT on Sundays, it even says so on their site. It's $10 to get in, and $10 to race.

Anyone planning on going out to Steele needs to read this...

http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=844551

The track is better than it was a few years ago...but its definitely not a "nice" track. It was good enough for $10, but I also questioned whether or not the extra cost was going to go towards improvements at the track and I never got an answer. With that kind of attitude towards their customers, they won't ever see me out there again. Its about 50 miles for me to drive to Steele, or 70 to drive to MMP. I'll be driving the extra 15 minutes to save money and run at a WAY nicer track.

Where is MMP? Is it 1/4 mile or 1/8th?

academytim

MMP is in Montgomery, AL. It is a full 1/4 track, except it doesn't have any potholes and the track is actually level the whole way.

bamalt1
01-13-2008, 01:21 PM
I thought it was either Montgomery or Memphis. I don't think Montgomery would be worth the drive for me. I don't race mine when I go, I can't stand sitting in line.

Wow! Didn't think a racetrack would have that kind of attitude. Espescially since gas is steady going up. I did attend PINKS there last fall. It was pretty cool.

Yep, everyone else is headed to Steele also.....it's only a one time thing since most all of our hometracks are somewhere else. We just wanted somewhere central in the SE for a few people to get together and have some TnT in the winter. Our regular tracks will be opening up next month anyway.

You may want to call ahead early on Sunday morning or Saturday night before you leave. The forecast for Sunday has a high in the 30s and is showing scattered snow. Steele may not be open. I'd hate for you to drive 4 hours to just have to turn right back around.

Where are you getting that forecast from? Weather.com is showing sunny and a high of 44 on Sunday the 20th. Sat. is showing a high of 39 and scattered AM snow flurries though.
