Capacitors have been proven to be junk.

General rule of thumb is 1F for every 1000 watts

I wouldn't say a cap is junk unless it is poorly made. I would say that they are a bandaid for a substandard electrical system or an eletrical system that is not up to the demand placed on it. A better investment would be in a high output alternator and upgrading the stock ground and alternator power wire to larger gauge wire. A 160amp alternator runs about $145.00 for a brand new one. This would make your electrical system more efficient and negate the need for a capacitor.

like KEE said upgrade the under the hood wiring (big 3) and the alt, then a newer less restrictive style battery like a Kinetik or Stinger, then a cap or caps

the thing is is that I have two caps sitting around that are new in the package

Sell them....or one? Did you purchase them recently? Can't return them (or at least one)?

If not then of course - go ahead and wire up one for the heck of it...it's not like it will do bad things -- just isn't a cure for a new alternator (which I know you aren't doing). They do help smooth out the power flow slightly.

I agree with Fred. Won't harm anything so if your stuck with em might as well use them or one.
