What year is the car?

Yes you would be better off getting a V8 car to start with, but if you really wanted to do it your going to need a LT1 k-member, it will bolt on to any 4th gen car and the LT1 mounts almost line up with the gen 1 mounts. What motor did you want to use? There is a shit load of threads asking this same question, hell back in the day before I did mine I asked the same question.

What year of car? What V8 are you wanting to install? LT1, LS1, 350?

Its a pain unless you are going from a cab motor to a carb motor.

If swapping a carb SBC, we can set you up with the front end and motoer plates to make this easy. If you are looking at an injected motor we can still do th front end but you will need to handle the electronics.

Its a 4th gen camaro and im gunna put a 1st gen v8 sbc 350 in place of the v6. but if its easier to just swap the v8 to a v8 ill wait a little longer until i find one i want...Thanks for your help tho guys. Are the mounts of a 1st gen the same as the 4th gen camaros motor mounts?

No, the LT1 mounts share 2 of the 3 holes for the motor mounts so you can use them, the LS1 mounts wont work.

With motor plates it won't matter. We just did a v6 to v8 conversion.

Hope ya thought about what you wanna do long enough. V6 to V8 swap. depends on what ya want, if your going LT1/LS1, then dont waste your time, just buy one. In my opinion if your thinking 350, I would say your better off buying a LS1. I would go bigger If you really wanna swap a V6 to a V8. All the stuff you need and wont need for go carb is in the sticky above. And thats just a lot of the basics. EFI is a totally different story. Just make sure you know what route you wanna go before ya make the jump. And again, the stuff you need is in the sticky about. GL

how do these plates work? bolt-in or weld?

i might be interested in doing this with one of my camaro's

J Bracket welds to the frame rail and the plates bolt on. Check our site and there are some pics in the gallery section of mine.

Glad I found this thread before I asked the same question. I haev a 1990 V-6 Camaro, and am wanting to swap a 355 into it.

The plans for the 355 will be a complete rebuild to lower compression and through a Weiand or an BDS blower on top with 2 650 - 750 carbs on top to feed the fuel.

The car is going to be a weekend only car. Cruising through town on friday nights, and taking her to the track.

I want to be keep all the seats, and what not, but I want ti to be highway drivable so I dont want to gear it through the roof just for track......I was thinking 4.10's or maybe something a little lower......For those that have done this kinda project, please feel free to pm me, I will be getting started on this project soon.

Thanks

I have a TH-400, 3.73's and a 28 inch tall tire and RPM's are pretty nice honestly, I think at 60mph I was at 2800, could be wrong but I could not compain when I saw it.
Its all in the tire height.

There are 50 gallon drums full of hreads on third gen v6 to 8 swaps on thirdgen.org.

Lots of good write ups and pictures.

Thanks for the info man.....Will definitely be looking into this more closely....

I don think I plan on running 28inch tires, more like Nitto's or BFG Drag radials.

I still have to pick out how big of a blower I want.....I have been researching and some say a 6:71 would be good and others say that 8:71 would be better cause it spins less to make the same amount of boost as the smaller, thus not getting as hot.....

I still have to weigh the pro's and con's for these, but I guess that conversation would be best in the Forced Induction section.....

Take your time with it, do lots of research, I doubt I will start ordering parts till mid this summer so I don't waste money.

Nittos suck if you ask most people. Id go M/T radials if it was me.

If you don't have the motor yet BBC's are fun :D

The engine is sitting in someone's drag car right now. the cam walked on it a few year back so I would have to tear it down to get machined andpress new bearings on it, so might as well start with forging the internals.

I am looking for a 8.5 -9.1 cr, that way I can run 10lbs without any worry. Should be a fun thing to play with once it's built and everything is set up.

I got a buddy on here BrianCWS6 he hsa been running Nitto's on his ride for sometime and hasnt had any problems with it....But I will look into the M/T's.

As far as I know right now I am leaning towards a 8:71 blower, just because it produces the same amount of boost as the 6:71 but at a lower rpm and less heat. As of right now I am not planning to run any kind of I/C. So heat soak might be a problem with back to back runs during the summer, but that is what that big cut in the hood is for!!! LOL

I am doing my research as time allows, but I think the 8:71 will be the way I am going to go, just to keep heat down a bit.....Also that is what a big bag of ice is for to lay on the blower in between runs is for!! LOL
