Automotive News, Media & Press - R35 Vspec runs 7:25 @ the ring!!!!!
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/08/nissan-gt-r-v-spec-lap-times-stun-observers/
The prototype Nissan GT-R V-Spec, wearing the "Victory Specification" designation reserved for the ultra high-performance Nissan GT-R, has been caught lapping the famed Nürburgring at an incredible, if not simply unbelievable, 7:25 per lap. This, according to bystanders trackside. (For comparison, Walter Röhrl lapped the Ring in 7:28 while driving a Porsche Carrera GT in 2004.)
In contrast to the standard Nissan GT-R, that made the run around the 'Ring in 7:38, the GT-R V-Spec has a new front splitter, modified rear spoiler, and different wheels. A more extensive use of carbon fiber has reportedly reduced the weight by upwards of 330 pounds. Of course, Nissan engineers also tweaked the twin-turbo powerplant for another 70 horses... or so

Are those slicks I see?
I'm VERY skeptical about the numbers....a thirteen second difference does not come simply from slightly lower suspension, 70 horses and 330pounds...
I also find it VERY hard to believe that this car outran a Carrera GT piloted by Walter Rhorl, THE ringmeister for Porsche...that'd be like this car outrunning an FXX piloted by Schumacher...:eyes:

Impressive....damn they had to tweak a lot of things
I just wish it did not look like a Transformer took a shit you know.....I see Nissan really loves that 350z styiling. Thats vette money and the v-spec is probably vette ZR1 money so why even bother with "Nissan". That whats going to hold them back. I wish it would look a lot better and not keep reminding me the "gran turismo" developer were in charge of the gauges and lcd readings (its like announcing its a ricer god).

No other post will ever matter in this thread after this one... Everyone please read it.
What's the rwhp on a Carrera GT? Weight? COME ON... Those are nice numbers for a lap on the 'Ring, but as stated by Hydramatic, you cannot close that gap with those small changes...
Now, going with racing slicks and that's a different story. ;)

I believe the SLICKS as seen in the pic were the biggest change to the car. Also, were they doing running starts like the last test? Or from a stop like all other manufactures do?

I would like to know what this production model COULD track around with OEM DOT-legal tires, whatever they would be... Obviously, it's gonna be a tad quicker with the few more horses.

EXACTLY!!
IF they are anything but street/oem/as you buy it from the showroom floor compound tires ALL bets are OFF!!!
But don't worry, Pissy Chrissy will make up a new username to defend this as well, and (counting down now) RedBeauty will be in here any nanosecond to join him.

We don't need anyone to make another name we got COD02SS, its as if he owns a Camaro SS just so he doesn't get killed in his neighborhood, because he loves the imports. I can't wait for the ZR1 to hit the ring, that thing is going to shatter peoples dreams. Those are some fast times i have to give them that, but i would like to know the specs on the car and what other features its running. And yeah when did i sign on to Nissan.com?

I cannot wait to see the ZR1 with some slicks and race gas on the Ring :)
This poor R35 is going to get raped.

C'mon that would only be fair if the GTR ran that, if the ZR1 runs race gas and race tires it would be considered unfair.

What part? The slicks or the rolling starts?
The rolling starts are in the video of the GTR actually runnung the ring at that "record" 7:38 pace. They take a running start past the starting lights for the timer. There was also an admission of using shaved R-compound tires for that run by one of the engineers, that was later retracted for some reason :eyes: . You just gotta look on the Nissan sites. Those boys don't like that info leaked for some reason. :jest:
The slicks, if you can't see those are slicks in the pic above, you are just blind.

Didn't the base GTR run a 7:25 first time around, too?

I want to see what the real production V-spec runs.
Does anybody know the tires the zonda and carrera GT had?

The ZR1 will smoke them all like cheap crack!!!
W
The timed runs @ the ring are rolling starts, and those aren't slicks. It's a sticker tire than the RE070 that will be available on production, showroom cars.
I'm dying to see official times of this and the ZR1...
And the reason I posted is because no matter what kind of car it is, that time around the 'ring is insane...just to share the news, not to start a ZR1 / GT-R discussion.

just thought id throw this out there...in our time attack car 100 pounds was good for about 1 second at buttonwillow which is a 2 minute course. honestly i dont think the results are that out of the question...it doesn't look like it has a factory style tire on it and im sure that had alot to do with it. think about it...it went 13 seconds faster on a 7 MINUTE course. I dont know how many miles the ring is but thats alot of track to make up 13 seconds. take a new zo6.. do you think it would be too far fetched to lose 330 pounds, add 70 horsepower, improve aero, improve suspension, add a better tire and go 1.8 seconds faster on a 1 minute course? do all those same things and see what kind of results you get in the 1/4 mile with any car. when you look at it like that, to me, it doesn't seem that unreasonable to pick up 13 seconds on a 7 1/2 Minute track.

I agree it is a sick car and it is fast. I am just sick of the GTR shit always being thrown down our throats.
No one here thinks it is not a fast car and that it would not whip many cars here...but this is a GM site.

That picture is a little misleading. Heres a better shot of the tires:

Ok maybe, but what company makes smooth sidewall white letter radials? Not saying there aren't any, but that is usually the norm for slicks, not street radials.
