I am planning to do some upgrades to the speaker setup and have read through the forums on this but would like some feedback on what I plan to do. I am not interested in replacing the HU or the monsoon amp, but blew the passenger door speaker last week so figured a change was in order.

1) vert fronts are driven from the amp with 4 ohm tweeters 2 ohm mids. rear are driven from the amp with 4ohm/4ohm. I plan to install 4 ohm infinity 6002Is in both locations by snipping the speaker wires as has been documented. The tweeters will run off the 4 ohm feeds that are already in place. I know the monsoon amp has an LPF on the rear mid/sub connections so I intend to wire up the front and rear 4o hm infinity woofers in parallel on the amp's front speaker mid connections to create a 2 ohm load.

2) I have a sub box that sits up on the trunk ledge under the vert top I purchased from Johnny B awhile ago that will have two 8" subs. I plan to tap into the rear mid/sub connectors from the monsoon amp, run them to a new 2 channel amp using the speaker level input to drive the subs.

My questions are:

a) will I get decent midrange out of the parallel wiring of the front and rear infinity mids? I have seen mention about replacing the fronts with 4 ohm speakers and that the result is brassy or high vs the OEM speakers..will running the infinity speaker woofers in parallel making them a 2 ohm load help?

b) What kind of crossover point frequency is put out by the monsoon amp on the rear sub connections with the LPF? if I run this into a another amp (2 x 150rms to drive the 8" subs in the sub box, will I be feeding it a reasonable frequency range or since the monsoon only had to drive those small flat crappy subs in the rear does it not go down low in the frequency range?

thanks for the help in advance!

Quite henestly you probably won't be impressed with the Infinity's for bass reposnse and what some consider harsh highs. I have several other options in that rice range that have much better sound quality and performance while still fitting in and working with the stock Monsoon system. Impedance of the speaker does not affect the sound quality of the speaker as much as the speaker itself.
From what I've seen in the verts the rear speakers are full range coaxials and not subs. Mounting depth is an issue as you have a little less than 2" of depth to work with. Worry less about what the Monsoon is putting out since your going to be using a line level converter to process the signal. Focus more on the capability of the aftermarket amp you are looking at to have a good LP crossover built in with frequency adjustment so you can make your adjustment there.
Let me know if I can help you out!

What you you propose for the front speakers? The vert rears really are not full range as I currently have the infinity 6002i installed there running off the rear tweeter and sub leads and the highs do seem harsh but I was assuming that was the case because there really is no mid range coming from the speaker... As was mentioned in other postings the monsoon amp uses an LPF on the woofer leads to the rear speaker so there is very little in the way of mid range coming from the speakers ..that is why I was planning to run the rear woofers in parallel with the front woofers to create a 2 ohm load and steal the midrange frequencies from the fronts.

If I were to use the speakers you would suggest for the fronts, I assume it would be without the parallel wiring setup meaning the speakers would be driven by the 4 ohm tweeter leads and the 2 ohm mid leads.

What you you suggest I do about the rear speakers and the LPF issue if I use your speakers in the fronts...do you have speaker recommendations for the rears and how they should be wired? keeping in mind that I was planning to use the rear LPF woofer leads to the new amp to drive two 8" subs in my shelf box?

Thanks for your help on this!!

Two more questions...a few years ago I bought a set of RF 4406 subs with the intention of putting them into the sail panels but never got around to it. Would those work well along with the CDT's up front? The second question is there are a number of mentions of the metra speaker harness with various part numbers, I have found these on the internet but do they really take the 4 leads from the monsoon amp to a camaro speaker and combine them into just two leads (s single + and -) so that you do not have to cut up the replacement coax speaker wires?

thanks
