ive just got a 12 band cobra, was like 100 bucks or somthin, works good, if the cops are setting on the side of the highway or setting somewhere just shooting radar. but theres not goin to be any radar detecter help to much if the cop just randomly sees you and shoots rader, your rader detector will go off but by then your already caught, if I were you id say get one to be extra safe, but after you get it dont act like your invincible cause you best detection against cops is still your eyes.

i have a cobra, detects radar and a bunch of different laser gins, like stated they work good whn the cop is sitting with the gun on, but if hes just randomley shooting ur screwd...i would just buy a cobra mine was like 150 and works well, spending 500 bucks on a passport seems outrageous, i mean u could buy headers for tht price lol... although im pretty good buddies with a state trooper out here and he tells me tht they can jam some radar detectors ...wheather he was lying idk, but i doubt he was ...hpe this helps!

i have the cheap old cobra detector... and it seems to do the same thing that the others do, just in not as fashionable of a way... but ive been warned about 2 miles before ive even seen a cop on the side of the road... but yeah the random shots will kill ya, no matter what brand or price of radar detector... lol or you could save your money for that next ticket that your car draws to you... cops love f bodies!

I have the escort passport 8500. Its about 350 bucks, but it works great. I got it for free actually, a buddy detailed a car and got the passport as payment. He already had one, so he gave it to me. I had a cobra before, and it doesn't even compare. If I had to guess I'd say the passport picks up radar in about twice the distance as the cobra.

I have the Passport 9500i very nice love it... picks up everything so far... no ticket in a long time :). Love the speed showing on it also the poor mans hud is nice. Also nice to cancel out false signals and never hear them again. I would definatly recommend it over any of the other radar detectors... besides the custom install ones.

I actually had the same issue about 6 months ago and found this guy right down the road from me. These things are pricey but worth every penny. Ive bought one for the camaro one for the work car and one for my g/f's car. This guy acutally has a performance shop and does excellent work if your ever in the area.

the thing I like about my beltronics rx65 pro is that it has mute/volume button on the end of the power chord. I have recently upgraded it with a kit to hard wire it in, which includes a remote mute button I elec. taped under my shift knob, which is pretty friggin sweet.

Valentine 1 is the best out there. The passport I used to have was very good but not as good as my BIL's V1. I use to tease him that he should give it to me cause he really didn't need it as much in his 98 cobra (4.10's) as me since I could spank his a$$:D LOL

Escort Passport 8500 x50. Bought it last march. It's been nothing but a lifesaver for me.

I have an Escort 9500i. I love it. I previously had a cheap-o Cobra from Target and it was garbage. Yea it would warn you, but it would barely give you time to react. Personally, I'd stick with an 8500 X50 or 9500i from Escort, or a V1. Detectors are a great tool if you know how to use them. If you want one just so you can drive excessively fast at all times than it's not worth the money because you'll end up getting burned again.

Look online and do some research about comparisons. There are some great sites that compair all the top models such as the V1 to the 9500i. I would personally recommend either of the two, but I see the 9500i as a much better investment considering you can plug it into your computer for future updates, cancel out a false signal FOREVER where you will never hear it again, and the poor mans hud :-p.

Poor mans HUD is nice, I keep the detector set to display my speed at all times. Although I have my detector mounted up top next to my mirror, but it's still easier looking up there to see my speed rather than down at the speedo.
Only thing with the 9500i(and any detector that has this feature) is the auto mute. Just be careful with it. Personally I turned it off because I actually got a ticket even though my detector had been going off. Between the loud music and wind noise from having the windows down the thing went off and went into auto mute and I didn't realize it had been going off. Next thing I know I happen to look up and it's at full warning level and before I can slow down a Trooper comes around the corner and swung a u-turn and I got a ticket for doing 65-50. It was only 58 bucks for the fine, but still. But since turning it off it's worked flawlessly and saved me many times. To end this useless rant just keep in mind that as with everything, you get what you pay for.

I have a passport 7500 s and it works decentley but still your best weapon is common sense. Had a cobra and i agree they're pretty much garbage. It would always warn me after i already saw the cop or do random weird things like tell me a train is approaching when i was on the interstate.. WTF?

but do you guys have a remote mute/volume button? In the comparisons, the rx65 pro did very well, and the remote mute/volume button pushed it to the top for me.

I have the Escort 8500 X50...and I love it. I have the detector hardwired above the mirror and the remote unit on the steering column. If you check out the comparison websites, the V1 is great, and having the cool arrows is neat too...but if I remember correctly, the Escort is more sensitive to certain radar bands, which is why I went with it.
also, 350$ isnt too bad considering the consequences for blowing by a cop at 100+ mph...I had a Cobra before, and the final straw was me driving by a cop on the highway who was standing outside his car with a radar gun pointed at me and it didnt even go off (luckily i wasnt speeding). I had the Escort sitting at home and i went and installed it that afternoon.

It was rated higher. I have two 8500 X50's one blue and one red. Love them both. It picks up over hills and around corners great.

Don't go with a cobra. that's for sure. it will beep once your getting pulled over. get Either an excort passport 8500 (what i have) or go with a Valentine one. I have never owned the valentine but i heard they are the best thing under the sun!!! Im content with the escort. I pick cops up so far away that by the time they are clocking me i just laugh!

I don't know about you guys, but I used to use a radar detector and stopped when it broke about 4 years ago. I got 3 tickets while I had it and none since then. Just don't drive way too fast and you'll be fine. Use the money you were going to spend on that for some suspension upgrades or something.

Had it over 6 years (I think)
Anyway, best out there in my opinion.
Plus, it tells you WHERE they are. To my it's like flying blind even using a regular radar detector compared to the V1.
