My brother just purchased a new amplifier for his truck, it is a JL Audio 500/1. He has not installed it yet since it just came in yesterday. He did go to a local audio shop though to show off to his friend there. Well the friend at the shop told him that his old amp was better than the JL? The amp in there now is a Diesel Audio 1600. I do not believe this one bit but I wanted to get you guys opinion. His subs are 2 12" JL Audio W3 V2-D2 in a 4 cu. ft. ported box tuned to 32Hz.

First, I've never heard of Diesel Audio until this thread. I won't go by that to judge, though, because I know there are some smaller companies out there that are good. The JL will be better IMO for several reasons. First, it's a class D instead of a 2-channel like the DA, so it'll be better for running subs anyway. Second, with DVC 2-ohm subs like those, you must've had them wired to run 4 ohms channel on that 2 channel, which can't be getting much power from that amp(don't know how much exactly because the power rating on it doesn't say rms or anything). With the JL, you can hook your void coils in series and subs in parallel, giving you an overall 2 ohm load for the amp. You'll get 250W rms per sub from the JL. There's my opinion on it. BUT, hook it up and see! Fact is better than anybody's opinion.
Just make sure that you check the resistance of your wiring of the subs with an ohm meter. With DVC 2 ohm subs, you can get them down to a .5 ohm load! I don't think the JL will handle that.

JL slash series amps are VERY good amps. A bit overpriced at retail, but underrated, built like a tank, and built by a company that stands behind its product.

Thats what I figured that the JL would be a better choice. I just needed you guys to back me up on that.
