That is going to help it A LOT. :thumb: :usa:
But they still need to pull some weight out of that monster, then LOOKOUT!!

If they dropped the weight a good amount of the weight in these cars even the GT500KR would be incredible. Im sure they will be asking an arm and a leg for the Super Snake, but i bet its going to be pretty awesome.

that 725 one has no warranty

Aren't the Super Snakes the ones you got to send to Shelby to get the work done? I believe the 600hp model has the warranty, and the warranty is voided on the 725hp model. The 725hp model i would pay $80K for if i had the money, and if the warranty wasn't voided. But there is no way i would pay $80K for the GT500KR, i see the Super Snake as being more of a collectible. But then again what can you really consider a collectible when there are so many damn models of these Shelbys hitting the road.

Too heavy and too pricey.
$50K and 3,000lbs and this thing would mean serious business.

If that thing weighed 3000 and cost $50K everyone would be talking about GT500s than the Z06, and thats a fact. I think the thing that hurts them the most other than the outrageous price is that weight. And i don't understand why they haven't tried dropping some pounds with all these models ever since the debut of the GT500.

Even though I agree, you have to admit that big numbers appeal to the average buyer more so than low weight.

Oh i agree with you there, eople now don't care how much it weighs. Now its basically it has xxxHP, and thats all that matters to them. Yeah the GT500s perform pretty good for the amount of weight they are pulling around, but imagine what they could do with the weight of a Z06. Im sure Ford realizes thats most peoples problem with the GT500, and just wish they would do something about it.

WOW on both HP and cost. Did'nt Lutz say something to the effect that GM will match the GT500? Does that mean the KR and Super Snake? I know i am in left field with this one but.....i can dream, right? :D

Yea, but a slim Mustang wouldn't have the body builder muscle car image that Ford has maintained with the Mustang since the beginning... I also doubt Ford will come out with any new model sport car with high HP and low weight, especially with the future 35MPG avg. law.

That word "AVERAGE" is the one to remember . We'll still have our toys. Its that new Ford GT40 with 900 HP all the really wealthy boomers are holding back for . September 2009 .

What about the '83(i believe)-'93 Foxy boyd mustangs? Those were slimmed down, and didn't weigh as insane as those today. Having alot of horsepower is great, its great for marketing a 500+hp car. But having that 500+hp car perform is incredibly hard with the amoutn of weight its packing.

a super snake huh? so now fords taking the "SS" symbol? great... but good numbers for the mustang. bought time ford gets their shit together. where see when the ZR1, Camaro, Challenger, GT-R, and Super Snake all compete for the fastest. im still on the ZR1? think that their push out some more hp in the future from the base hp specs???

These are tuner variants offered by Shelby themselves no different than Roush. They are not official Ford models or backed by Ford.

:eyes: Great, we have a 600+ hp Mustang, a 600+ hp ZR-1, and we can assume that GM will answer with at least a 500+ hp Camaro.
Now; which one will actually put that power into forward motion instead of tire smoke? :barf:
This is silly for a street car.

Yeah, it is getting silly.
Whichever company pulls their head out of their ass and comes out with a 2500 pound sports car with 300 horses has my business.

i wonder if these companys even consider the weight issue really... i mean look at the challenger...425 hp and its running 13.2 in the 1/4...4,150 pounds will do that..as soon as i read that i completely lost any good thoughts i had about the car...i for one would never buy something like that...sorry i know the topic is on the mustangs but the weight issue came up

it is getting pretty crazy. i think its just a fad now though. adding all the power they can to everycar before all the new cars get robbed of performance due to mpg laws. but still these cars are just the sickest of sick. im not sure on their mpg yet but i think if you can get 27 mpg out of 427 cubic inches of 505hp fury go right along!! i cannot wait till i get older and all of these current gen cars get cheap!!

260 hp and 3000 pounds.
I guess that's a step in the right direction, but once they get up to 3000 pounds, might as well get a Vette.
The Elise weighs 2000 pounds, that means the technology is around to make super lightweight vehicles. I'm sure a lot of those lightweight parts drive up the cost, and the tiny engine also keeps the weight down. I'm staying hopeful that GM makes something not too much heavier but with a more powerful engine.

They also don't look like proper Ford Mustangs at all, they look like slightly larger Escorts. They scream malaise era inside and out. There's a reason people restore and covet the originals, half the appeal of a muscle car is the style and the Mustang's is iconic. Old cars also didn't have to conform to today's crash regulations for impacts or emissions.

At a huge expense that is passed on directly to the customer. That's also why the Corvette costs so much, it's a that requires it's own structure, plant and uses more expensive materials. A Camaro or any muscle car engineered the same way would be priced through the roof and most of you wouldn't be able to afford it or want to pay that much.
The Camaro is based on a mainstream RWD family car just like the Challenger and priced to be reasonably affordable. That will be reflected in it's weight.

In regards to the new Camaro, I could really care less what that car weighs, so long as it's got enough power to run faster than the last of the 4th gens. Even if it weighs 3800lbs, if they give it an LS3, we should see better times than the LS1 cars ran stock.

What family car platform is the new Camaro built on?

For a good laugh, check out autoblog and see what a GT500KR is going for on ebay. you'll seriously **** a brick and possibly have a stroke from laughing so hard.
I knew there was a reason I don't respect cars with the name "shelby" on it.
